Trendnet TEW-435BRM Wireless ADSL Router supporting 802.11B and 802.11G £10 in Asda Living. Plenty in stock in Leeds Crown Point retail park today. May also be in Wallmart super centre stores. Note there are two different versions for the same price. The one you want to buy it D1.0R as this is the most recent of the two they had in stock. D1.1R is newer if you can find one. These are identified by a small sticky label on the reverse. They also have a cable broadband version for £15 for Virgin etc.

Setup seemed relatively easy. The only point I think most people would stumble on is it it says it automatically checks your connection, then it asks if you need to login to your ADSL connection while automatically selecting no log in. Most users will need to change this.

Some things it has (not a complete list). 4 lan ports. QoS based on either rate control/priority (good for VOIP connections etc).

Interestingly I have a net connection speed increase giving 5mbps where with the previous I only got about 4mbps. Will give it a proper online test comparison with the old one in a bit to check if there is a real-world increase. The quality of the plastic it is in is quite poor and felt a bit like a toy but you can't really complain for the price.

Each router tested twice with near enough identical results each time. Tests show only a slight download speed increase on the new router (.28 mb/s). 2ms ping benefit. So near enough no difference really.

Old router is a Dynamode R-ADSL-C4-2


New router


Edit: Just noticed firmware upgrade adds WPA-802.1x and WPA2-802.1x

Looks good like:

■Supports router+ modem or modem (modem only) mode as will soon be in need a adsl2+ modem.

Do u know it will function puruly as an access point as last router I did this to had a special mode for it but that was a pure router with a wan port.

Could not find manual online any chance email me the manuel as could not find it on line.

Anybody know if Asda Houdslow has any?

Manual available at http://www.trendnet.com/langen/downl...UBTYPE_ID=1262 for the D1.0R version model.

Not sure if you can use it as a wireless access point (for virgin broadband etc) although they did have a model for this purpose for £15. Hopefully if you know more than me about it all than I do the manual will have all the info needed.

They have a few of these in the MK ASDA \ Walmart as well
It looks like a blue-shelled version of the old KCorp modem router.

I bought one of these at my local one in Lakeside, cost £15 there. Works well for extending my wireless network in conjunction with my Powerline adapter

ive had one for two years ,so mine must be the older version,however its the best bloody router ive owned and also the cheapest.So easy to set up and use.well worth a tenner

I'd be interested to hear if this cheap router has all it's higher ports open (according to GRC for instance). An cheap router from Ebuyer which I bought in January was like this which was a trendnet clone.
Most people wouldn't realise this unless they did a port scan

If enable the inbuilt firewall it'll close those ports according to GRC,not ideal as ideally you want them stealthed.Im sure you could stealth them using port forward in the router.

As I said before for that price its dam good value

The point is the built in firewall actually DIDNT work in the models I tried. By default, they should ALLl be stealthed, thats what a normal router will show, you would then, for instance open a port for, for instance bitorrent applications.
