Obviously not a great spec for a Windows machine, but this would be perfect as a linux box.

3% extra off if you pay with Paypal.

it looks like a dell 1100 if it's not a stock picture, so max 1gb ram. i have one witha 2.6ghz procesor, which is the main machine i use online (as i'm using right now). i just stuck a couple of bigger HD's in and i have a dvd burner. i suppose to upgrade with dvd and ram it would cost you another £30 perhaps, so not as good as the dell3100 deal the other day. i use a pc at work thats ancient and 1.8ghz with 500mb ram and it does office and internet etc, so this is perfectly fine for cheap basic use. if you have a lcd tv with vga input, you can use that

It's easy to forget that PCs are so powerful these days that one for the average family use - net, office, etc - can be carried out with a cheap but powerful PC from 4 years ago. A fair amount of corporate PCs are still P4 based and with a fresh XP install can do all the above with no problem. The uptake of Atom PCs shows there is a use for lower power machines still, and it makes me sad to see many capable machines thrown out or disregarded because the PC World guy says you need a dual core for simple photo editing or PC Format says it sucks if it doesn't run Crysis.

Joe Average does not need a C2D to use the net, one of these with maybe a cheap graphics card will run all that and iplayer no problem, and in these lean times we should make the most of what we have (and recycle to boot!).

Agree with both of you.

By way of example my old mum and dad are happy enough with their pentium 3 - 512RAM 40Gig XP PC - only do the odd word processing and a bit of web use.

Except that you can't get a decent processor at CEX for £1 even if there's a shop that has stock near you, the 1.8 GHz processors are £1 but that's exactly the same as this one besides which you're getting into all sorts of problems with motherboard compatability with regard to the processor and the RAM and the man in the street doesn't want that kind of hassle.
