If you want a stable laptop i'd avoid cheap RAM like the plague.
Go for corsair, Crucial, Kingston etc and get a matched pair

never had a problem myself, 1Gb Kingston £15.99 here though
unfortunately that's rather cheap as well

When I say cheap RAM i'm not refering to the price, I'm refering to the quality, Unfortunately the usual distinction between good and bad is price.
You run diags on Play.com RAM and then run them on Corsair I guarantee you'd see my point

It is basic but I have it and it is fine for everyday usage. I paid £260 inc a carry case from cdiscount and it was available for 249 from morrisons not so long back. I had a spare 1 gig and it is more than fast enough, it runs win7 very nice. Not so much a bargain though at that price, sure its cheaper direct from HP website.

"up to 2hrs" on a 6 cell battery? I'd expect to be pushing 3 hrs for that at least.

It looks just like mine and mine is the Hp (same) but I got it with 3gb ram and bought some dirt cheap ram 2gb PNY from Play for under £15 before Christmas and works for what I use it for.
