At present there is no such thing as a L.E.D. (Light Emitting Diodes) TV. Samsung, like all big companies are brilliant at marketing. Samsung have released a range of L.C.D. (Liquid Crystal Display) TV with L.E.D. backlighting. They are thus playing on the inclusion of the LED backlighting and calling their range LED; they most certainly are NOT LED TVs. Having said that, the inclusion of this type of backilighting has made the Samsung range a very impressive proposition; they now deliver a fantastic picture; maybe not as good as the best Panasonic and Pioneer Plasma but very well damn close (my personal opinion). Samsung's so-called LED TVs are a stop-gap and will disappear soon. Both Samsung and Sony are working on OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes), which is the future of television. Now these beauties will be true LEDs (or OLEDs) and will deliver the most fantastic picture but right now far too expensive; Sony 11" is something like £3500. There is a rumour that Samsung is working on a 40" OLED. Let's wait and see. All companies are guilty of hyping up their products. Take the Panasonic NeoPDP range of Plasma TV, another brilliant range of TVs; they claim a refresh rate of 600Hz. That is NOT true, the native refresh rate is still only 100Hz and uses a 'fill-in' trick and thus is able to claim 600Hz, sorry Panny but such a thing does not yet exist. We musn't let the hype get us all worket up. |
