Windows 7 RTM (Release to Manufacturing) is now available at MSDN Academic Alliance.

If your academic institution is a member of the MSDN Academic Alliance you can sign in and download certain Microsoft Software for free. This now includes the full (not RC) release of Windows 7.

You need to acess the MSDN site via your academic institution to be able to log-in.

If your institution is not a member of the MSDN Academic Alliance you could still get access by joining the IEEE - costing US$13.50 for a half year membership.

"Membership in the IEEE is open to individuals who by education or experience give evidence of competence in an IEEE designated field. The designated fields are: Engineering, Computer sciences and information technology, Physical sciences, Biological and medical sciences, Mathematics, Technical communications, education, management, law and policy."

shame im in 6th form and they dont offer this...i wonder if theres anyway a kind person could share the login details temporarily to individuals to allow them to get a copy or a key. Actually is any kind person who has access willing to to get me a key for the OS if anyone is willing please mail me thanks alot :P

The problem is, the log-in will be registered to your university id so abuse will be easy to spot. Also the terms of the license state will be broken... so it would be just the same as downloading a pirate copy off the web.

Some places come up with a link 'visit sofware center' that takes you to the correct site to login. For some institutions there is no link - I don't know if this means they are not available online - they also mention it is possible to obtain physical copies of the software at some locations. I guess an email to info@msdnaa.net or your uni's IT dept could help.
