EXPIRED - 3 Mobile Broadband - 5GB allowance - £15/month - One month rolling contract - Comparison to other networks in the post @ Three

£9.99

46°

FOUND BY: Domokun 2 months, 4 weeks ago

EXPIRES: 31/08/2009

I have searched around this week for a mobile broadband package to make sure I have access while moving house. 3 offer a far, far better deal here than the competition, and I signed up straight away once I'd read through the T&Cs.

£9.99 initial purchase for the dongle, then £15 a month thereafter on a one month rolling contract. This is somewhere between PAYG and contract mobile broadband. Details direct from 3 on the 'go to deal' link. Download speeds up to 3.6 Mbps, the dongle is also a microSD card reader (which I think is standard, but still cool).

Orange, for example, will charge you £30 up front for the dongle, then £14.98 a month (30 day contract) for a 3GB allowance.

Vodaphone charge you £40 for the dongle, then £15 per GB thereafter.

02 want £30 for the dongle, then £2 a day, £7 a week or £15 a month for 500mb/1GB and 3GB data allowance respectively.

T-mobile want £2/day (so long us you top up £10?!) or £10 month for 18 months, both with 3GB allowance. They will gove you the dongle for free though. (Thanks?)

The downside is that they need 30 days notice to cancel, meaning you need to serve 2 months minimum on this contract once you've signed up. The chap in the shop said they can sign me back up to it if I decide to cancel then sign up again. The offer is available online and in store.

I would love to hear if any of you can find a better deal for mobile broadband from any provider.

Cheapest solution I found was a standard voice 3 payg sim, (£10 for 30 days internet topup)

and I used my mobile as a tethered 3G modem, which worked fine and cost nothing.

Regards

This is probably against the T&Cs of your sim contract, I know I've seen it in the T&Cs of other providers because I considered doing the same with a free 3 dongle. The same is true of using an iPhone sim card in a dongle, but 02 have been cutting customers off as a result of doing this.

your heading is wrong, from 3 website:
15GB - £15/month for a 24-month contract
5GB - £15 for a 1-month contract

Maybe I am reading this wrong but from the link it looks like you get 5gb not 15gb for the 1 month deal - you get 15gb for a 24 month contract for £15

Pretty good deal, though slower than some other providers. Currently trying to decide between this and a Vodafone deal that i've been offered as an existing customer, both work out about the same price but the Three deal has a one month minimum term and the Voda deal is "unlimited" (i.e. there's no charges for going over 5GB, just a speed drop).
