Vodafone USB Modem Stick - TopUp and Go £34.99 or £24.99 (after £10 quidco)

£34.99

Instant access when you need it - and no more paying when you don't. TopUp and Go gives you all the flexibility of Mobile Broadband, without the monthly contract.

"With download speeds of up to 3.6Mbps, it's faster than 3G. Your USB Modem even comes pre-loaded with 1GB of data - that's 30 hours surfing, 650 emails and dozens of downloads. And when your credit runs out, simply top up to enjoy more of the same - fast, reliable broadband that covers 80% of the UK.

No contract. No monthly bill. No fuss. Get this cracking deal now for just £34.99 - then top up whenever it suits you."

edit: As pointed out, this price includes a £15 credit, ie, 1Gb of data. I've been a light user of this dongle now for other a month now (on a NC10 with XP) and I still have £13.45 worth of credit.

An additional tip when using such dongles is to turn OFF automatic windows updates/downloads. I caught Windows trying to download lots of updates (lots of Mb's worth) which imv should be done at home rather than via these dongles.

been this price for ages, £15/Gb seems expensive to me
although it doesn't expire like it does with the other providers

you forgot to mention that it comes with £15 credit, ok so you put 1Gb but £15 credit sounds better ;)

Anybody got one of these.

How do you find your data usage//?

Got one of these for my Dad and teh data usage is very different from his old 3 dongle.

Over the last year his daily data usage with 3 was 8 -10 MB per day

Over the last week on the Voda is 30 - 35 MB per day according to the value used.

Usage profile has been very stable for the last year at 245 MB per month according to 3 bills.

Any comments ideas ?

I got one a few weeks ago & plan to use it when away from home with my linux Acer Aspire One. Sorry, can't really comment on data usage yet.

I found it very good at work where I got a 3G signal instantly, but pretty slow at home where it only ever seems to get a GPRS connection - despite being in a major city ???

Are you sure it's been this price for ages? I bought my father inlaw one @ £39.99 and I've been looking every week or so for the price to drop. I checked just over a week ago and it was still £39.99.

The credit doesn't expire on this one so it's ideal for low usage. My father inlaw has had his for 4 months and he still has £6 credit, on other networks he would have had to spend about £40

Voted hot.

Does Vodafones not just combine Tx AND Rx (up and down), whereas 3 just does download?

The different dongle and different mobile network should have no difference in traffic volume from a technical perspective - only the routing (path to end destination) is different.

The software ie drivers for the dongle are not compatible with linux.. Change your operating system to xp, works excellent.. Check how to change operating system via usb on youtube.. Linux is ***** anyway.

You must use the dongle once every six months or your credit expires according to the terms and conditions info.

Think this is a good deal, as has been said the one advantage is that it doesn't expire, good back up.. credit lasts for months, got one for a Polish friend and he has been doing bit of surfing and checking emails for months..

Did you read my post? I said it works very quickly with a 3G signal, quite slowly with GPRS. This has nothing to do with XP / Linux.

If the drivers were not compatible with linux, then how come it works on my linux acer aspire one? Vodafone provide the linux drivers & instructions on how to install.
