These look very nasty. I doubt they are easy to sharpen , keep sharp or easy to use. If you have a small amount of planing to do buy a cheap electric. If you enjoy using hand tools invest in something more substantial. Cold.

As a carpenter with 30 years experience I can tell that these are not fit for purpose. In order to plane anything you would first have to sharpen the blade. the shortness of the larger blade would make this hard work .To set the blade in the shoe accurately would prove difficult as the cap screw is flimsy. lateral adjustment would be a lottery. These would be quickly consigned to a draw a left to rust. If you have only a passing knowledge of hand tools I suggest you do not equate cheap with bargain.

it's quite obvious this offer is not aimed at the 'pro'...it's for household diy...a door rubbing on the laminate floor etc...for this purpose i think it's a fair enough buy for those who don't want to fork out for a 'pro' tool to do 1 or 2 odd jobs.

For 13 quid its okay I guess, you could flatten the sole, get a new blade and have an alright scrub plane, but if you look at the image you'll see the throat is way too big for anything fine on these planes.

They are the tools of your trade if i was putting up doors and building cabinets everyday id want the best of the best if I'm using something day in day out for years i buy the best but if you use a plane once in a blue moon or as a hobbyist these will be ideal i think your cold vote means jack as this bargain was not for the Norm Abrams of this world it was meant for a guy who might need to alter a door or who makes models.

You are totally missing my point. I could alter a door with one of these but someone who picks up a plane once in a blue moon would be instantly frustrated. Just because they are cheap does not make them a good deal , even at a fiver . Generally with hand tools the more you pay the better the tool, the better the tool ,the easier the job is. I was only giving you the benefit of my experience but hey , knock yourselves out.

actually comes up £12.93 including free ship, that's on amazon but ordered through choiceful. i already have these and they are OK, not the best in the world but easy worth twice this.
have seen the aldi set before and i wouldn't give the fiver for them, am happy withe the draper though........everyone has there own choice i guess, i also have faithfull and Stanley and for the price the draper are ok in my humble opinion and i am no pro, although i do also have a Clifton for real fine work
pint is, sometimes you can get mire then you paid for (draper) and sometimes just what you paid for (aldi) a good deal is not necessarily based on what is the best kit...........if i found brand new fiat 500's for 6000 it would be a good deal.........Mr Schumacher may well say its not as good as my Ferrari, and some one on here would agree with him.......don't stop the fiat being a good deal

Hi mate, can you give me the definitive difference between a carpenter and a joiner?I always thought a carpenter is more to the craftmanship side, and a joiner more to the more 'routine' side of woodwork, my brother says the opposite. Please decide this once and for all.
