Lloyds TSB Added value Current account Gold - £3 pm then £7.95 pm

-214°

FOUND BY: Cyrus 2 months, 2 weeks ago

I've been looking for a deal to insure my mobile phone. This is the best I have come across as it not only covers the mobile phone but also gives you AA Breakdown and world travel insurance. For a total of £85.50 a year, I think thats pretty damn good. Been on the radio and stuff but I thought I'd make a deal out of it as it is worth having if you drive, travel and use a mobile phone ... which a lot of people do.

thanks OP sounds like a good deal, but be careful the travel insurance is European on this particular option.
Not criticising just trying to clarify.
Thanks.

Hiya
I agree but gold doesnt start at £3per month and then go up to £7.95 pm as your listing header suggests....

I'm on the 'silver' option which is £7.95 how do you get the gold option for £7.95?? It still shows as £12 after the 3 months on the website.

Agreed...Thats how I read it...
to be fair -still seems a good deal, I only mentioned the travel insurance bit because I wouldnt want anyone to think they are getting worldwide when they only have european. The main reason why I clicked the link was because of the travel insurance element which unfortunately is no good to me as I dont holiday in Europe.
Still a good find I think and well worth looking at

I have had the Gold account for about 5 years or more and there is no charge if you keep £2000 or above in your account

Hiya,

Using the figures as in the origianl post Lloyds charge £90.45

A cheaper alternative is :-
Name your mobile on your house insurance - approx £10.00
Get Auto Aid for your car breakdown service £37.00
My last holiday insurance was £20
= £67.

The savings are better off in my pocket that theirs!

That only applies to existing Gold account customers. See terms on their web site:

" If you opened your account before 14 January 2005 your monthly fee is waived if your balance remains at or above £2,000 during the monthly billing period".

That might explain why they have been phoning me, asking me to go into the bank to see if they can find me an account that suits my needs better.
They probably want me to change to a different one so they can start charging me!
Thanks for pointing that out.

Most fee-based bank accounts like this are poor value. As mrsj2008, points out, you can buy the elements that you actually want for much less than the monthly fee.

On the travel insurance - beware if you need to add on your family or extend the coverage to USA, wintersports, etc if not covered. My experience - some years ago when I did have one of these accounts - was that the additional premium was more than buying a separate travel policy.
