Manchester to Hong Kong (Easter 2010) £334 return @ Finnair

£334.00

328°

FOUND BY: lickylonglips 2 months, 6 days ago

Was just looking for flights to Hong Kong from Manchester for next year and wasn't expecting to find anything cheaper than about £500 as it's during the school holidays, but lo! and behold, they are offering returns via Helsinki for a fantastic £334! Finnair are a very good airline by all accounts, so I bit their hand off and booked two seats from 7th to 18th April. Cheap as chips! Or prawn crackers for that matter!

Seats seem to be available at this price during March / April, apart from flying on Good Friday where the price shoots up to a staggering £4,349!!!!! I'd avoid flying then!

go to a hk cinema - great experience

young pao bird street (all the bird owners take their budgies there for fresh air - very interesting)

just check online for all the best places to go

oh - get an octopus card (think they're similar to oyster cqard but very cheap to purchase, extremely widely used and so, so convenient)

public transport v easy and cheap

I think to go back and spend two weeks in Hong Kong would be fantastic, places I would go to see if I went back would be Stanley market on the south coast of the island, Sham Shui Po for the computer fair (all copies of every format you can think of and snake charmers outside), the temples on Lantau/Lamma Island, taking a trip on the star ferry from Kowloon to central (on the lower deck for 60 cents - you end up getting your feet wet !), go up to Sha Tin and see the temple; spend a day in China (I was there when it was still a British colony - 1987, so hopefully these all still exist); you could take a trip through the walled city (!) - we did this through school at the time when it was the only part still chinese within Hong Kong - I think you would still need to be careful; Ocean Terminal shopping centre; go up to the peak for the views, especially in the evening; I would be tempted to spend some time on the tram as well, you will see most of the island on one of these and it will cost next to nothing; the beach at Repulse Bay, and even Stonecutters island (which I don't think is an island any more - the Japanese used it during WW2 for prisoners of war, along with every venomous snake they could find. As you would expect, POW's didn't last long); I would also spend a day in the theme park (which I can't remember the name of. Hope this helps, let me know if you want any more places, there are a few small obscure markets that you can go and visit in the middle of nowhere, especially in the evenings.

Lantua Island big bronze Buddha take the Ngong Ping 360 they have the new crystal cable cars where the floor is see through.

Take a ferry over to Macau and try your luck in the casino's or just sight see.

Get the tram up to the peak to see a very beautiful view of Hong kong.

Visit the night markets such as temple street & Ladies market its fun for haggling.. (btw never pay what they offer).

Ocean park is pretty cool, they have the dolphin and seal show.

If you wanna go for drinks the best place is lan kwai fong the area is full of Pubs and clubs. The area is full of foreigners (as the local would say) atmosphere is fantastic.

Really depends what you want to do, but Hong kong is mainly about shopping and eating lol.

If you want to Die! That place wasn't exactly nice. Anyway we did stay in a hostel there (Las Vegas Hostel), was £96 for three nights for two of us, although the building is horrible the hostel was nice, rooms were all new and clean etc.
