Please note this does not necessarily mean second hand.
Nearly all Garmin units have had serious software issues and have been practically useless in daily use whilst driving including freezing halfway throu a long motorway journey and more. (Why do u buy a unit only to fail once you really need it???) I have the best one in the range and it was still dodgy. Looking back I should not have paid more than £150 for it but of course i paid close to double that approx 3 months ago.
As I am fairly tech savvy myself so I managed a complete overhaul myself but otherwise it can take your time & effort to do online including installing all their software on your pc first & registration which I recommend. Garmin are fully aware of the problems so expect some serious knock down prices for any Garmin units.
For this reason, they have had to be refurbed before they can be used. If a unit is brand new out of the box then you caan update the firmware of the unit as well as the maps yourself as Garmin provide a 60 day new maps guarantee online once registered. Ps use unit first, let it pick up signal approx half hr or so then do update of firmware plus update maps after and you most likely will have no issue.
