Digital Video Essentials (PAL) Home Theatre Calibration DVD £10.97 delivered

£10.97

FOUND BY: khemical 2 years, 9 months ago

Another deal aimed at those who have taken advantage of recent deals on plasmas and LCDs and are looking to get the best out of it and the rest of their home entertainment setup.

Product description:
In the 1950s, the “TV GUY” brought your new set home and tuned it for you. Then came the 1970s where we drifted into “plug and play” with the viewer doing all of the tuning. By the 1990s, component video was making its way into the home, and we released Video Essentials to help you get it right. Now…. it’s time for the next generation, as home entertainment setup has evolved into Digital Video Essentials. The DVE calibration disc looks at system setup from the point of view of creating a canvas for works of electronic art. We’ve created NTSC, PAL and HDTV versions of DVE that provide a unified set of instructions and test patterns that work with all three formats. From acoustic and visual environment of a high quality system, to audio and video setup, Digital Video Essentials is the “TV Guy” of the 21st Century.

There is a dual format version (both SD and HD) of this but it is seemingly not available until June. Strangely the RRP was £9.99 but this seems to have gone up now at various places.

At Amazon - £7.49 but Amazon say it is not released until June 1.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Digital-Vide...?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

CD-Wow used to advertise it at £8.99 but now it is £13.49 (has more of a description on this web page)

http://www13.cd-wow.com/detail_resul...t_code=1042772

Choices used to advertise it at less than £9 but now say it is withdrawn!

http://www.choicesuk.com/SearchResul...deo+Essentials

Sendit £7.89 say release date is 25th June.

DVD.co.uk £7.95 say release date is 25th June.

If you want a chuckle it's apparently actually available at Tesco at a bargain price....

Is the DVE shown suitable for SD as well? I am hoping to get an LCD soon but will be watching SD for the forseeable future.

Also is it easy to use? I am a novice and am afraid of making things worse!
Does it work better than 'tweaking'?

Thanks!

This (or equivalent like Avia) is an absolute necessity for any even vaguely expensive TV. If you don't do such a calibration, you're not getting the picture you should be - the brightness/contrast/colour levels a lot of people use with HDTVs make me absolutely wince :-)

Lizzybif: yes, it's very easy to use.

This video is INVALUABLE for calibrating your LCD screens just right. It takes a while, but is a one-off process.

One caution - although the 'combi' version claims it is both HD-DVD and standard def, it might only work with an HD-DVD player (but in either SD or HD mode). I don't know for certain, but would be worth finding out if you don't have an HD-DVD.
