**FREE WIFI** at all Starbucks cafes for reward card holders

190°

FOUND BY: boonkoh 2 months, 1 day ago

STARTS: 23/09/2009

Just announced today and and saw at my local store.

Starbucks are now offering FREE WIFI to all holders of its Starbucks reward card. Its free to sign up for the card, just go into any Starbucks store and load it with an initial £5.

After registering your Starbucks card online, you can then go into any Starbucks, select the BT Openzone network, and click the rewards card logo on the landing page, and enter in your reward card username + password. No purchase necessary!

Good for those who travel around alot but don't want to pay the exorbitant wifi subscriptions. Also there is a Starbucks in literally every airport, train station, street corner etc so quite easy to come across one of its 650+ stores in the UK.

The reward card also gives you free espresso shots in your drink, free syrups, and a free drink of your choice if you buy a bag of coffee.

Note: I wanted to link to the official page on Starbucks site about the free wifi, but at the moment it incorrectly states that it is only available at 4 stores in the UK (http://starbucks.co.uk/en-GB/_Card/Starbucks+Card+Rewards+Wi-Fi+Support.htm)

Confirmation of nationwide rollout by Starbucks PR: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/index.cfm?newsid=3202368

Well, you don't have to use the £5, and I believe that if after a few weeks/months you wanted a refund of the £5 they would give it to you.

There is also no expiry date on the £5 I believe.

In any case its still better than shelling out £2-3 minimum per session for BT Openzone access.

They claim it started today 22nd but has been available in 4 stores for trialling so maybe you used one of them?

I called up and the card I registered for use in the US (who have given free wifi for a year or so) will supposedly also work over here but not tried it yet.

In the US you have to buy 1 coffee on the card every 30 days to get free wifi. Not sure what the limits are over here. If you load and spend the £5 do you then get free wifi for ever and ever until the offer ends?

You just log in using your Reward Card Number and the PIN that is under the scratch of section.

Well... the T&C's on the official page (http://starbucks.co.uk/en-GB/_Card/S...Fi+Support.htm) doesn't say anything about purchasing something in order to use the internet, so not sure if you have to buy something.

But it just says that you need to enter in your username + password that you created when registering your card online, so probably I guess there might be no minimum spend limit.

There is a limit of 2 hours per session, but it does go on to state that you can log out of the session about 2 hours and log back in again immediately, so effectively unlimited internet per day.

Would be interesting to see if US cards work over here in the UK for free wifi!

Then there is no benefit to you of this offer unless you only get limited time free each month in which case this will save you using them all up.

And I stand corrected, yes you log in with the log in you set up online when you register the card.

But I wonder if they will only allow logins that have a purchase against the card... hmm... but if it is just any login, then you can definitely get one without spending money off the card.

In wonder if in in a few weeks time we will see loads of people in Starbucks with laptops... but no drinks

Boonkoh, buy a coffee... go on you know you want to!

People like to knock Starbucks but they are making an effort to improve the offerings. (Not directed at you boonkoh).

With the Reward Card I can get a Grande, extra shot Latte with sugar free vanilla flavour for the £2.35 plain Latte price. I can then sit for 2hrs with wifi access. AND don't forget you get 1 free regular drip through coffee too when you are sitting in, just take your empty mug/paper cup back to the counter and ask for the free refill. I have one up the road and go there to sit and catch up on emails and online stuff and £2.35 for all that is IMO excellent.

I'm all for buying Starbucks coffee To date, I haven't found a ice blended coffee as good as the frappucinos in Starbucks. And I've had my reward card for some time now, and actually, i'm afraid to admit, the marketing technique has worked as I've gone into starbucks more often now that I have their card!!

Lol, in hindsight we have reversed roles then! I do use Starbucks when I want to sit and relax, fire up the lappy etc but when out on the road I no longer go there to save cash and instead pick up a McD's coffee which is surprisingly good for £1.19 and after every 5 you get a free coffee. So well done you for supporting them and ME being the freeloader

Wellllll.... I'm not actually supporting them that much more; while before I might have a few starbucks, a few costa coffees every few months.... now, I still buy the same number of coffees in total, just that when I'm somewhere with several coffee shops in the vicinity, I now find myself actively choosing Starbucks, just because of the free shots/syrups. And that is exactly what starbucks wanted me to do.... grr.....
