Which laptop of these two - or can you advise a better?

Dell All the way.

Acers after sales support is NOT good. While Dell's isn't what it used to be, it's a LOT better than Acer.

Getting spares for Acer should things go wrong outside of warranty is a fecking 'mare unless you look on ebay for other faultys. Dell on the other hand, you can get spares no problem from LOADS of suppliers.

I'd suggest Dell if the specs are identical (And it seems they more or less are)

if you are just comparing these two laptops then go for dell one bcoz the processor is better than the acer one as the processor number is higher and also its clocking speed (t6500 and 2.1 ghz.) but then u have to trade of with the keyboard as acer comes with numeric keypad as well.

Yeah the Dell does seem like the better one, yeh noticed processor is slightly faster and not bothered about the numeric keypad, if anything its probably tidier than a fuller keypad.

Trying find a decent buy for a friends laptop purchase, narrowed it down to
a few but still unsure on mobile cpu's so have made a shortlist given other
things he needs, hard drive etc and am left with the following cpu choices.

Intel Core 2 Duo (T5470 - 1.6GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB)
Intel Core 2 Duo Santa-Rosa (T7300 - 2.0GHz, 800MHz FSB, 4MB)
Intel Core 2 Duo (T5800, 2.0Ghz 800 FSB 2MB L2 cache )
Intel Core 2 Duo Santa-Rosa (T5750 - 2.0 GHz, 667MHz FSB, 2MB)
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T6400, 2.00 GHz, 800 MHz, cache : 2 MB
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5800, 2.1GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2MB Cache
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T6400 2.13GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800Mhz FSB
Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor T3400, 2.13GHz

Can I be so bold as to ask somebody to post them in order of speed and is
there any real difference in the real world using (4 GB of ram 5400rpm SATA
harddrive), I think I know there order but don't want to do anything until I
have ran it past some people who I know will know more then me.

Core 2 Duo is faster than Dual-Core so eliminate those two.

Core 2 Duo with the same FSB and cache. [
