360/PC on LCD monitor help!

POSTED BY: hornblowerracing 5 months, 3 weeks ago

My youngest currently has a Acer 1916w 19" LCD monitor than he runs his PC through, without any speakers.

He wants a 360 for Christmas, can I run them both from the same monitor as it only has one VGA port? Do they do some kind of splitter?

And how would the speakers fit into this setup?

Rep for help, cheers!

Easiest thing if possible is to unplug it between uses. Unless it has anymore ports?

Thats what I do... a quid extension cable from Maplins means It can lie on the desk and I don;t have to fiddle around the back of the monitor every time I want to switch them...

I'm pretty sure it's just the one VGA port?

I can unplug, but I wanted to connect the 360 to the PC for Live. I presume I can just plug it in via ethernet and it won't make a difference if the PC isn't connected to the monitor?

And for the speakers, do the do external ones that I can use on both the PC and 360 that don't go through the monitor?

Yes this is the only way you can do so.

As 1 PC to 2 VGA SVGA Monitor Y Splitter Cable / Lead UK

would require the machine to be off.

And the point below wants you to have the machine on for live.

Ebay item: 390092402253

Attach seperate speakers.

Monitor doesn't need to be on for the pc to work.

You will have to do it for him

Could still be connected to live via ethernet - wouldn't make any difference if the monitor was connected or not...

As for speakers the 360 vga cable comes with a phono plug that goes ito the back of your monitor or you could plug it into a set of speakers...

There may well be a third party cable that includes a optical out? Can't remember if the official one does as it's at home (and i'm not!)
