Myguide MG3218WE sat nav £30 instore @ ASDA

£30.00

FOUND BY: anewman 1 month, 4 weeks ago

Myguide MG3218WE sat nav £30 instore in ASDA. Was one left in the glass Cabinet near Cig counter in Brynmawr (South Wales).

372mhz processor, 64mb RAM.
2gb SD card with western europe maps (2gb limit).
Sirfstar III GPS technology.
320x240 pixel 3.5" antiglare screen (doesn't go as bright as I'd like).
Internal lithium-polymer battery (claimed up to 3 hours operation).
Cig lighter charger and windscreen mount included.

Hit the model number in on the internet and found Ebuyer reviews which suggest it can be hacked to stick tomtom, igo8 or whatever on. The turbodog 5 stuff on it is a load of junk so going to try fiddling with it. Bought this to replace my usual HP Ipaq 2210 + bluetooth GPS combo with Tomtom installed on it. First impressions are that the screen isn't brilliant and the speaker isn't as loud as I'd hoped from a dedicated sat nav unit, but still a little louder than the Ipaq.

Myguide is actually a decent little Sat Nav but I'd certainly bin the turbodog. Mine is currently running IGO 8.3 with TTS (says the road names instead of turn next left etc) and it is actually quicker and easier than the TT's I occasionally use.

Will pop into ASDA for that price

Could anyone kindly point me in the direction of an idiot's guide of how to use IGO on a Myguide satnav?

Many thanks

Just got igo 8.3 on it and this makes it quite a good unit for £30. You can basically stick the Igo 8 files on the memory card and change the path in the sd card file shell.ini to point to the igo 8 executable.

I found that iGo would lose the GPS settings (com port and baud rate) every time you switched on the unit. TomTom software on the same unit and memory card didn't. Anyone else have this problem?

Just picked up the last one in Wigan. Was still marked at £50 but scanned at £30 much to the sales assistant's disgust!
