£10.50

FOUND BY: jasee 1 month, 3 weeks ago

Ebuyer seems to have stoppped supplying cheap computer power supplies, however Microdirect still do a range. This one is £10.50 including Vat. Standard ATX form factor, so should fit most pcs. Note that this appears to have a single euro socket on the rear. Reviews say this power supply is quiet and reliable. Dispatch within three days is £2.99, making the total £13.94. For those who do not know: Microdirect is not a new company, they've been in existence for 10 years or more.

Not keen on cheap 8cm fan PSU's as they tend to be loud. But if cheap is your thing then £11.99 here or for a £1 more than yours 12cm fan and dual rail here

according to the revues, it's quiet, but who knows quite what that means

Thanks for the first, yes, cheap is _is_ my thing, things here are supposed to be cheap aren't they?
I never would have though of looking at play.com.

I bought the second one you offered as an alternative, the gold one:
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/890306...d/Product.html
Although the one i actually bought was the 450W version below:
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/890307...d/Product.html Should be pretty similar although £17.99,

The gold one from Play has the big 12cm fan and it is pretty quiet and effective.

I wouldn't personally risk a cheap 400w power supply in my computer. It might cost £10.50 but it would cost more like £300 to replace the other components it fries if it blows up like alot of these cheap ones do....!

Good price though !

for info- It's always worth checking the AMP output on power supplies as the new grafix cards are very hungry on amp's.

This is a great price for a cheap PSU.
I would not use a cheap PSU again though as i recently had to replace several parts of my PC due to its failure. This time around i spend in excess of £80 on my power supply.

Remember kids, allways buy a 80+ PSU. Save yourself money in the long run

http://www.80plus.org/

This one is £34.49 on scan's today only : http://www.scan.co.uk/product.aspx?ProductId=21012 You would probably save the difference in bills in a year, and it's allways worth spending a bit more on a PSU. PSU problems can be very hard to diagnose as well..

I could be way-off here but I'm assuming GPUs use 12v and thus amps are somewhat academic a W = va

All GPU requirements are quoted in W but if you're really touchy, get one of the 'Authorised' PSUs for your particular GPU - there are lists at nVidia/ATIs site for this.

Cheap PSUs are for people who like risking their expensive PC for a negligible saving tbh. You can get a quality PSU with a 7 year warranty for £55 - it will be quieter, more reliable and I'm willing to bet cheaper in the longer term...
