If anyone is wondering why these laptops have dropped in price - DSGi are trying to sell through pretty much ALL of their Vista stock in expectation of the release of 7 so they wont end up with "lame" stock they can't sell.

Who knows what competitors will do to match it...

That too - at least I never remember seeing it at over £500. Even so £379 is still a good price for this laptop - I got one for the GF's grandma from play and it was £399 for this model. Not impressed with it per se (as I see laptops day in day out and they are all the same...) but theres nothing wrong with it. Definately good for the price though...!

Its nothing to do with that as it comes with an upgrade so you get 2 OS for the price of 1 and this deal has been plastered over the TV at peak hours for days, i doubt there's no one that doesn't know of this and the reason its cheap is the Technology is old Amd x2 and 4gb of ddr2. No doubt 667mhz not the 800mhz which is as cheap and wirelessG onboard not N.

Its only a matter of time before Amd drops an athlon x2 in and support for dd3 for windows7 and Intel will release there new i7/i5 mobile processors so this will be slow by comparison i have always found Amd x2 based laptops slow compared to Intel's alternative you would be way better served waiting 2 more weeks as you will see all the big names trying to capitalize on the new windows7 operating system. That's when you can expect to see all the new tech out and no doubt there will be some cheap laptops to be had this is the sort of machine you buy this week and a fortnight from now find it for £329 or something way better at the same price point.

Most laptops have DDR667 (the few that dont, i.e. the NC10) only have DDR800 in there thats downclocked to DDR667 as thats the most laptop chipsets will support...

Saw this while searching for a bottom end laptop but Comet appear to have a better range of cheapies at the moment, including variations on this one. Think I've settled on a Compaq for £369 - it may be a touch slower but the Compaq brand is a reassurance after I keep reading poor feedback on Acer's reliability and backup.

I looked at the compaq, but less memory, smaller hard drive and no windows 7 upgrade option made me go for this one. Picked it up this morning and its a good little starter lappy
