Jesus, not a bad price, just hope they have finally got past the 25% failure rate for the platter and the non-starter for most NAS setups ;)
Not going to vote on this one as I have a 50/50 failure rate, won't work on my NAS but happy in the PC
Nothing like a bit of exaggeration! I know the 1Tb F1 drives had initial teething problems lasting about 3 months before the failure rates dropped to levels comparable with other manufacturers. However, I don't believe anywhere has accurate figures on failure rates for the F3 model - it is too new. In theory, because it uses 2 x 500Gb platters instead of 3 x 333Mb, the failure rate should be 33% less than the outgoing model. This would make it the most reliable drive on the market.
As for the non-starter in "most NAS setups". That is simply not true. Almost all the popular NAS appliances now support the Samsung F series with firmware updates. The problem was at the NAS end - the F series were running full 3GB/s speeds and some NAS appliances couldn't cope with the speed until they got their firmware update. There will always be some NAS appliances where they won't work because the manufacturers have failed to provide a suitable firmware update. However, this is becoming less common.
