alera:
I have a 60gb launch ps3. ps2 compatability . They look better and sella t a premium on ebay. No way I would take the backwards step to a slim.
I have an original (Phat) PlayStation 2 console from 2000 still in near-daily use, and I would be sad if that ever decides that it has whirred enough for one lifetime, but when the Slimline PS2 was released (without the provision for an official hard drive upgrade), I was also sceptical of a "backward step" as I thought the newer model didn't look as good as the former one.
After a while though you get over the resistance to change & just accept technological advances for what they are. Does the outside of the box really matter when you are playing games? Is backward-compatibility really a deal-breaker given the cost of a PS2 console now?
For £250 (+ bundled games bumping up the price) for a 250Gb onboard hard drive, and all the same features (except the ability to install another operating system) as the later PS3 "Phat" models you could buy a PS2 console to continue playing your older titles if required.
But yes, I prefer my European Release Day 60Gb PS3 to the new PS3 Slim models too.
With the pending availability of the 250Gb Xbox 360 "Super Elite" bundles ("Forza 3 Motorsport", or "(Call of Duty: ) Modern Warfare 2") & the ever-increasing deadline of 25 December 2009, the incoming deals on Sony & Microsoft consoles should only be good news for consumers for the rest of this year.
Then the next iteration of the Wii console (HDMI; with/without a hard drive capability) will be with us in 2010, and all three manufacturers will be offering bigger & better incentives then as well.
There are worse things in the world than the new PS3!
You will only have a finite window of opportunity to reap the most reward from selling an original 60Gb PS3. Those that are being offered at HotUKDeals are rarely reaching £250; some often selling for around £200.
