Philips Nivea Coolskin HS8020 Electric Shaver Half Price - £33.76 IN-STORE @ Tesco

£33.76

335°

FOUND BY: GeeJay86 1 month, 2 weeks ago

Morning all,

Last night I was in Tesco looking at the electric razors and noticed they had a few reduced. The particular model I was looking at - the HS8020 was still listed at full price on the shelf (£67.53) but I thought I'd scan it through at the self checkout. Lo and behold it went through at half price!

RECEIPT ON PAGE 2

First thoughts on it is that it's a cracking product. I had only previously used a foil shaver once when I started shaving and it gave me a horrible rash, so moved to blade. Now I get terrible razor burn and ingrown hairs from shaving, no matter how much care/prep i put in.

Anyway, I used this shaver in the shower as soon as I got home (I didn't even need a shower!) and I haven't got a single pimple!
Okay, you've got to go over some tricky areas a few times but I've still seen no irritation from that. The cut is close enough to the skin to not be noticeable, and it's totally painless to use (unlike the snagging feel of the foil shaver).
I'm 100% happy with it, I'll still use a razor for special occasions, but for as good a shave as you need on a day to day basis it's brill! Certainly beats the 6 day yeti look, followed by one day goalkeeper for a darts team!

One note about the lack of a trimmer for this model, at the price, you can afford to get a dedicated stubble trimmer if you're that fussed about shaping, but as for simple sidies, put your finger where you want to go up to and cut up to that, looks fine!

Again, this is an in-store only deal (found in Ocotal store, Swindon) as they don't even list the product online.

No trimmer on this version
I have the HS 8060 version, and wish I hadn't. Feeble - it HAS the trimmer which was the reason I bought it, as mine was bust on my previous Philishave.

I wish I had returned it instead as it does not cope as well with my very average beard growth, and takes forever as well as being awkward to hold conmpared to other Philishave models (Had Philishave shavers for last 30-odd years!)

I got this shaver about a year ago, and, I can honestly say it's the best I've ever had. I've been a 'blade' shaver for many years, and occasionally bought electric razors, used them for a while, and eventually went back to blades. Not so this time...It's a bit fiddly to start with, but the results are excellent! You will need a good supply of Nivea moisturizing shaving system cream to go with it at about £6-£7 a pop Can be used without the cream, but you loose the 'smoothness' which is what its all about . Are these shavers any good? I prefer a traditional shave foam and blade shave....

Well, don't we all... but electric is quick & easy. For some people you would barely notice the difference, but with me, a real shave is a lot better, although in practice I make do with electric for convenience.

I have had Remington "slots" utterly HOPELESS, like all the Remington products I have had or have tried
Braun foil - good, but the foils do damage easily and replacements are not cheap. Used a battery one for a long time as a standby in my office drawer!
Philishave - best, as more durable but make for a little bit of friction soreness. This newer type is less friction, but as I see, you either love it or hate it - I prefer he older type, others seem to prefer the new design like this one, and even with or without the trimmer, the trimmer is not very good so you would need a cheap battery trimmer or whatever to go with it.

The 'coolshave' units aren't generally known for being any good...

Do you have one? I personally have this one and it is the best shaver I've used. I suffer badly from shaving rash with a normal wet shave, but with this one after a few days of my skin getting used to it I'm fine and haven't had shaving rash in ages.

I used the coolskin stuff with the trial bottle but didnt bother filling it up again. I just dry shave now and I find it does a good job. Doesn't get rid of all the long hairs sometimes so wet shaving is the way to go if you don't have sensitive skin. If I haven't shaved for a while I shave first with this (dry shave) then have a quick once over with a wet razor to get rid of any random long hairs that are left.

If I shave every couple of days though it works fine. The fact you can use it in the shower and completely immerse the shaver in water to clean it is ace!

I personally think that they're good. I have the 8040 model (I don't think there is any real differene)
I use mine with traditional shaving gel or oil as the Nivea consoles are pricey. also good for the shower, etc.

I would say well worth the money.

I have one and use it every day in the shower it works ok but the coolskin refill is expensive so I have found that normal shaving foam works just as well and its far cheaper

That's what I do but also because I couldn't find the refill for sale anywhere.

I use this daily in the shower and it's good! Like others the refill is expensive, so I use it with the King of Shaves Gel, the minty tea tree one I find best (having tried foam/gel from others)

I had my original 8060 a year, I may buy one of these as the whole kit (here, prices £34) is the same price as a new set of 'blades'
