Cheapest I've seen them.

"Offering your system the incredible performance of flash-based technology, The OCZ Vertex Series delivers the performance and reliability of SSDs at less price per gigabyte than other high speed offerings currently on the market. The OCZ Vertex Series is the result of all the latest breakthroughs in SSD technology, including new architecture and controller design, blazing 230MB/sec read and 135MB/sec write speeds, and featuring up to 64MB onboard cache. OCZ continues to place solid state technology within reach of the average consumer, and delivers on the promise of SSDs as an alternative to traditional hard drives in consumer targeted mobile applications.

Read: up to 230 MB/sec.
Write: up to 135 MB/sec.
Sustained Write: Up to 70MB/s
Seek Time: <.1ms.
Slim 2.5".
Low Power Consumption.
RAID Support."

Not sure how long these will be available at this price, the deals usually change daily. If you're not eligible for the free delivery add £6.99 to the total.

I am new to SSD. Quick question how do you plug this to your motherboard?

Do you need a special port for this ? i.e. IDE, SATA

There is a Samsung SSd on the way ( no eta yet , i admit )

MMCRE64G5MXP-OVB - 64GB Samsung, SSD, PB22-J MLC-Flash, 2.5", 1 x SATA 3Gb/s, Read 220MB/s, Write 200MB/s

Has double the cache and much better write speeds - Expected price is £126.22 ( Today only price would be worth another 6% reduction) and it is a SAMSUNG too

Worth the wait ?

Those write speeds are a typo, I'm pretty sure that model's 120MB/s write, the higher capacity ones are supposed to be quicker though. So no it's not worth the wait, as it's actually slower across the board for this capacity.

EDIT: Also I think the Samsung warranty is only 2yrs compared to the 3yrs offered by OCZ. And if you look around they're already on sale for more elsewhere e.g. http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?sam-ssd64, http://www.**************/product-in...oduct_id=33319, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=HD-079-SA.

ive got one of these, very nice, not the best on the market, but then again not the most expensive either.

fast enough, use it in my main system as my boot / system drive , photoshop used to take 18 seconds to load on my old hard drive, it now takes a conservative 4 :D

Yeah, I saw that Scan deal, wondered why it is considerably cheaper than everywhere else.

If this price is correct, surely it's better than the OCZ deal on offer here

Although the sequential write speed (i.e. time it takes to write a large file to a disk) of the Vertex is higher, the random write speed of the x25-m is far superior. Random writes is what your drive will be doing 90% of the time -- updating file system entries, writing out a page to disk, saving a snap shot of a file, caching an image from your browser etc etc etc
