Is renewing your car insurance driving you crazy? Then you're not alone!

POSTED BY: windhoek 1 month, 1 week ago

I bought an '06 Golf in August and had a minor bump in March '08 and my insurance quotes are almost double what I paid last year - arggghhhh!

I'm checking out Quidco, using compare sites and the web for cheap insurance, but it's just too damn expensive! I've got 8 years NCD (protected) and am 36 years old, wtf is going on?

I'm just stumped as to why £420 is the cheapest quote I can get! I apologise for my little outburst.

No points?

I have 6 and 1 recent bump - and I'm paying just under £400 for a Honda Accord. I'm 39.

I remember when I was about 20, thinking I can't wait til I get older and insurance will be so cheap - still waiting!

welcome to my world......I had 4 years no claims and I literally scratched the paintwork on the bumper (about 2inches) of an 04 renault clio or summit.....and my insurance went from £180 a year up to almost £500 and they took all my 4 years no claims from me....

Why did they take 4 years for a minor scratch and not two like most companies? That really isn't good.

Need to get it protected next time mate - and use a scratch and dent guy for damage like that - probably cost you less than your excess in reality.

They are only allowed to take 2 years per claim.

Yep

No, its not good. The person who I "ran" into or bumped decided they wanted to claim it through the insurance and basically kicked the ass right out of it...claiming £400 for hire car expenses while his vehicle was in getting "repaired". The insurer was Quinn-Direct by the way, I'd defo give them a wide berth...

I spent almost 2 hours on the phone talking to 4 different people before I got through to the actual case handler who dealt with the claim.....and each person I spoke to I had to explain everything from the beginning.......

In the end they said they would give me back 1 years NCD and that I would receive the paperwork confirming this in the post within a a few days, needless to say that it never happened......and I really didnt want to call them again......they will tell you anything you want to hear to get you off the phone.....

In their schedule of T&Cs it stated that they could only take a maximum of 3 and that was for severe or costly claims.....I tried this on the phone mate...its a completely different ball game between whats supposed to happen and what actually happens......

Ahh, sorry mate.

Still, make sure you protect your no claims next time - it really doesn't add much to the cost.
