Actually, I'm wrong - it's £38.15 including VAT, so yours is still cheaper.

First, I'm not a huge fan of Belkin.

Second, you can get one of these boxes with a SATA drive included for hardly any more money. The only thing this has going for it is that it takes IDE drives.

Third, in what way is this 'high speed'? It's USB.

Cold, cold, cold!

i needed it for an ide drive i have (dvd burner)

plan was, since i use them all the time (burning a couple of dvds a day) i wear them out quickly, but to buy a new dvd burner for my laptop costs about £30 min, to buy a chunky one is only about £15. with this, i intend to save money when replacing my dvd burners

and it's high speed (2.0) usb as opposed to low speed (1.1) usb

I'm not impressed by the USB 2 point as you'd be hard-pressed to find any 1.1 devices these days except maybe keyboards and mice.

I think I would have bought on of these for £6 on ebay:
3 in 1 USB 2.0 to SATA / IDE Adapter Cable + Power

http://*********.co.uk/3-in-1-USB-2-...d=p3286.c0.m14

It doesn't have the case, of course, but then you don't then have to worry whether the front of the case comes off and whether the drive will fit properly. It's a quick and dirty solution.

the link says the page is no longer available, maybe the listing ended or something

i don't think 'high speed' is used as a boasting statement, i think it is merely referring to the type of usb connection it offers, which is known as high speed usb (as opposed to low speed). i also have a sandisk extreme III 2gb sd card, but i wouldn't consider it to be particularly 'extreme'..it's just an sd card

i bought one of these enclosures off ebay a week ago for £10 but it blew up, so i thought i'd be better off going with belkin (with whom i have had no problems so far) who offer a lifetime warrenty

i got a refund on the damaged enclosure by the way

i think you still win though when considering how cold this is...

Well, I felt a bit guilty about my posting after I read a bit of the feedback on ebay. There seem to be quite a few people who have had problems with these, so maybe a decent brand is worth paying for.
