High electricity bill (advice/help appreciated)

I moved in to my property, a small two bedroomed flat, in March 2008. Since living there, I had tried contacting E.on twice about my electric bill and on both occasions got no where. Admittedly, I then left it.

Just recently however I have had a bill come through from E.on which was addressed to my landlord and stated he had set it up for a yearly bill. I sent this bill on to him in which he dealt with it and E.on then sent me an amended bill from the date I moved in with an estimate of £750 for the 20 months I'd been there.

When I rang them up to settle this bill however they asked me to take an accurate reading which I did last night and now the new total is £1,800 with me using an average of £90 a month apparently. To pay this off and to keep on top of my bills going forward they want £230 a month!!!!

Now I understand and expect quite a high bill but I'm not too sure if the full price of the bill is correct. Like I say:

- Small 2 bedroom flat
- Property is all electric heating (no gas)
- For the first 12 months my partner lived with me and was at home during the day, whilst I was out working.
- For last 7 months I have lived on my own and I work during the day and was hardly home at night, so next to no electric would have been used.
- I'm quite conscious in the fact I always make sure plugs are turned off if something isn't in use such as TV, microwave, etc...

Does this bill sound right to anyone else or know a way to reduce it? I really can't afford to pay that much a month.
