Trading by PM allowed by Mod

POSTED BY: scotland88 1 month, 1 week ago

OK so i thought trading by PM was against the rules untill i read this

Thanks for letting us know beforehand. Please ensure that you receive and accept a suitable bid publicly on your thread when in a position to advertise.

I have seen the comments earlier in the Dell Mini thread regarding the item being of no use to you by a certain date. Please ensure item is in hand before offering within fs/ft.

As no fs/ft thread has been created, then PM's are exactly that. Private messages between 2 members.

Bear in mind that there shouldn't be any profiteering either, so the item can only go for cost price + new postage charge to the buyer. However just make sure you are happy to sell, otherwise it's a pain should the product require some sort of warranty repair anytime from delivery through to the end of the 1st year.

Does this mean that as long as no thread has been made we can still do deals through pm as it seems to me like its breaking the rules.

it all seems rather murky on one hand asb is saying don't break the profiteering rule and wait until the item is in hand yet it seems as if the dealing via pm rule is ok as long as there is no thread. so if that rule is ok to break then why are the other rules not ok to break?

the point is that trading by PM has occured. They sent pm's back and forth and agreed upon a sale. In which case a rule has been broken

hmm i see it a bit differently, surely its fine to have talks before hand, then once its agreed make it public in the forum so it can be seen.

I see plenty of threads "FS: XXXXXX Reserved for XXXXX" yet these threads are allowed to stand even though its obvious some communication has happened before so it must be allowed.

yes because the thread allready exists, but where there is no thread surely its allowed to discuss a item otherwise that would be ridiculous

What difference does a thread existing or not existing make!? you are still agreeing to the sale and pming each other it is the same if their is or isnt a thread! ? their really is no difference.

No, you must always create your trades within fs/ft forum, no exceptions permitted.

All trades conducted within FS/FT must adhere to the rules specified and all members should follow the trading advice.

Failure to do that ensures that we cannot get involved.

As above, the rules are explicitly clear and apply to all trades within FS/FT. We don't encourage anyone to trade outside FS/FT.

Just to make it clear for anyone in doubt. Should a thread be started within FS/FT no negotiations away from the forum will be allowed.
