Multiple site deals - an idea

I wouldn't see the point. Simply because some deals are better for others and some are not.

Play give me 5% off for being a RAC member.

Where as a similar deal at Amazon wouldn't be as good even if equally priced. However students get 5% off at Amazon so its better for them.

yes but that is irrelevant tbh not everyone is entitled to student discounts or RAC discounts officially so these discounts should not be in the main listing.

or should hmv/tesco empoyees start posting deals with their staff discount included etc etc

if its a deal its a deal irrespective of the extra discounts some may recivev as students,staff, civil servants etc

i dont think it could work IMO as a deal someone thinks is hot for tesco might not be hot for them from asda if there isnt an asda nearby etc...

I think its a good idea, people could see the multiple merchants supplying the deal and choose which one suits them or which one gives them better discounts or is convenient etc it would save a lot of space on the deals section and gives people more options to get the deal.

true but no one should be voting cold on a deal because of location, i dont have a smyths nearby but i still voted hot on there rockband deal because it was a good deal, so i dont think it would be a problem.

I don't understand what you’re disagreeing with.

It was an example of what can happen in deal choice. Not anything to do with the offer at hand, people select the best deal based on extras all the time irrelevant to the ones mentioned.

I'm saying putting them all together will make the system more complex on submission.

What has been placed in which I am hoping will be expanded on is the Amazon comparison, I'm hoping the incorporate more retailers, this will mean it’s easy to price compare.

Agree. Also dislike people who do this, selfish voting. They also do the it's 1p cheaper here crap when its usually Amazon who don't offer Quidco.

they shouldnt and i dont, if its a good deal then it deserves to be hot regardless of whether its nearby or slightly cheaper elsewhere but i have seen people cold voting for stupid reasons

The Saints probably correct here - its a nice idea but would be such a big change to the structure of the site that it would probably be too time consuming to implement (you would need changes to the structure of the database which, given there are already half a million threads, might not be very easy to go about...)

That said some sort of find similar deals option might be easier to implement - maybe a box at the bottom of the deal showing 5 'similar' deals based on the title and 5 other deals from the merchant would be useful - problem being how to identify what the 'similar' deals are, and where to put the workload of the search...

All you would need is a checkbox with "available elsewhere?" and you add those merchants its avalaible at. Then when you select a merchant it shows the deal as it has been associated with it. Would perhaps require a database structure change but not too bad. Could also allow other people to add merchants to the list that they have seen it at rather than posting a new deal by editing the original deal.

An example in point is Timotei shampoo I posted recently is available at Tesco AND Asda. It will likely/may have already be posted twice.

surely its its available nearly everywhere then its not really a deal is it?
