Powergen Enery OnLine Extra Saver - new online tariff for Gas / Electric

136°

FOUND BY: mister.c. 2 years, 9 months ago

Just to mention that from 9th Feb that Powergen Lauched a new online tariff, the Energy Online Extra Saver (dual fuel for Gas and Electricity). This replaces the Winter Saver tariff for all new customers (ie they've introduced this and removed the Winter tariff). You may recall from this post that a number of us switched to the Winter tariff.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35729&highlight=powergen

When I've compared this new tariff with the old Winter tariff i signed up in December (by using Uswitch.com and Energylinx.co.uk) I found myself apparantly saving £120 per annum with the new tariff (not surprising given Powergen have recentlylowered prices, but only for new customers / tariffs).

I havent actually got my tariffs from the Winter tariff to hand (to ultimately prove it) but the new tariffs are:
GAS: Units 3.737p per kWh, Units above 4572 kWh p.a 2.972p per kWh
ELECT: Units 17.483p per kWh Units above 900 kWh p.a 9.797p per kWh

To change call Pgen on 0800 183 1377 between 8.00am and 8.00pm Monday to Friday (8.00am and 4.00pm on Saturday).

This is available to all existing customers as I've just changed.

Obviously switching electricity is not for all and there may be better options but if you are happy with Powergen then this would appear to be a tariff that reflects the new lower price of energy and could save you money just by ringing a free phone number.

Hope this helps - glad to try to put something back into this site!

Could i ask lovely admin to help tidy this up a bit! - price, getting the first link (to the previous HUK deals post) and an image would be a start to overcome my rubbishness in this area! Thank-you!

It's a bit tricky to compare until all the companies respond to each other in the next month or so!

British Gas Click Energy has better rates, although notoriously poor customer service...

i think the general advice from the so called experts is to stick with who you are with until march/april when all the suppliers should have new rates

!!!THANKS!!!

I am an existing Powergen customer so I just called and they confirmed that this EnergyOnline Extra Saver tariff is even cheaper than the EnergyOnline Winter Saver tariff that I was on. They were quite happy to switch me to the new cheaper tariff. I was getting 11% discount and this gives something like 24%. Apparently this is in response to British Gas announcing their cheaper tariff.

You can check with the online comparison websites but they take a while to catch up with the current offers, by which time new offers are available that they don't list. Just bite the bullet and switch is my advice.

And yet the people these companies are supposed to help e.g. our parents do not see any of the so called benefits.
With the proposal of companies like the last one mentioned . They take more than they give with ever increasing payouts to shareholders

Glad to be of assistance! - problem with posting these kind of deals is that, via responses, they go off tangent with opinions on changing suppliers, whether you should change suppliers, etc, most them are helpful of course!, though perhaps by not caveating my initial post sufficiently, this kind of dilutes what i was principally trying to do in alerting happy online Powergen customers to a new rate which they may not be getting and which they could save money on.

I did try to pre-empt that by linking it to the previous thread on the Powergen winter tariff (which this rate is cheaper) and by advising if you are happy with Powergen and if you are using the online tariff, then this should be cheaper. No point waiting till April paying higher prices on Powergen if you are happy with Powergen, as a supplier, now.

Powergen may not be best for you, it may or may not be the best time to switch and other providers may offer a better deal for your consumption patterns!

Not sure if this is any cheaper. I am on the winter saver tariff and the rates are as follows.

GAS: Units 3.559p per kWh, Units above 4572 kWh p.a 2.83p per kWh
ELECT: Units 16.35p per kWh Units above 900 kWh p.a 9.82p per kWh

I presume both figures are before vat is added so they should be comparable.

Cheers Paul - a mistake by me to quote those figures without fully verifying them - but you'll see on your bill that these headline figures are the gross costs of power before any discounts are applied.

Since my post I wandered onto MSE where this has been discussed in detail and is very informative - refer to gas/elect forum board for much useful background. Perhaps i should have done all of this before initially posting and reposting! Essentially it would appear there could be savings for existing customers dependant on where you live, much likely to be small savings if already on the winter tariff but more if just on the basic online tariff.

Stewie_griffin in that forum posted the following which hopefully brings further information to my post though the whole thread is probably best to be read:

Confusion over discounts
I thought I'd try to clear up some confusion regarding the amount of discount on the EnergyOnline Winter Saver/Extra Saver tariffs.

Since this offer was introduced in November last year their have been 3 different offers. The first one ran between 6/11/06 - 19/12/06 and on this you receive a additional discount of 5% (16% discount total) until 31/01/08. The next one ran between 20/12/06 - 31/01/07 and on this you also receive a 16% discount, this time until 31/03/08. To make it more confusing both of these offers were called EnergyOnline Winter Saver.

The current offer in place is known as EnergyOnline Extra Saver. On this you get an additional discount until 31/07/08, however the amount varies depending on which region you live in:

Eastern - 15%
East Midlands - 15%
London - 16%
Manweb - 17%
Midlands - 18%
Northern - 19%
Norweb - 15%
Scottish Hydro - 18%
Scottish Power - 17%
Seeboard - 16%
Southern - 17%
Swalec - 16%
Sweb - 16%
Yorkshire - 19%

Therefore if you live in Manweb, Midlands, Northern, Scottish hydro, Scottish Power, Southern or Yorkshire you will be better off on the new Extra Saver rather than the Winter Saver.

Hope all that makes sense.

Sorry peeps - please ignore the 'When I've compared this new tariff with the old Winter tariff i signed up in December (by using Uswitch.com and Energylinx.co.uk) I found myself apparantly saving £120 per annum with the new tariff (not surprising given Powergen have recently lowered prices, but only for new customers / tariffs). ' from the original post - was ill informed I'm afraid at point of writing (and either uswitch etc isnt up to date, or i was actually comparing the original online saver and not the winter one with this product).

School report - will do better in future posts!

i work for powergen (e.on) in one of the call centers. the energy online extra saver tarif aint bad at all. if you have the gas and electric with em on one bill and pay by fixed DD you can get some crackin discounts. the discount varies thou from region to region ie notts gets 15% but yorkshire gets 23.6%. would say thou that the prices are comin down soon but with the discounts like that on the accounts i wouldnt expect them to come down huge. only other good things about powrgen thou are free phone line (only one to have this!!) and you may end up talkin to me.

(ps I promise i aint been brain washed by em. Check on line on u switch. its just a job to pay for games and the ex wife!!)
