£57.49 for a Verbatim 1TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive at Makro instore.

£57.49

330°

FOUND BY: ggibson 1 month, 2 days ago

Just bought one of these drives for £49.99+vat , bargain at £57.49 including vat. Quality drive which is £69.99 at Amazon and £79.99 at Play.com. When the drive installed, mine showed up as a Western Digital Drive inside the enclosure, which made me even happier, as they are one of the better drives to get:
This was not on as a discount line, or special price offer!! Just on the shelf, with the same price tag as everything else on show!!! Grab it!
Bought from Makro Teeside, but I'm sure would be nationwide.

Bought this when it was on Makro Mail, fine apart from the Nero software, but have used it without.

Cheers for posting ggibson.

Off to Makro tomorrow and like the look of this (plus the set of 5 wrecking bars @ £9.99 plus VAT) and need to know if this is really a good price etc? Thoughts appreciated.

Nice price but do you know what brand the actual HDD inside the verbatim case is?
I recently bought a 1TB iomega external HDD (that housed a Hitachi HDD) and it failed on me. I was able to get a refund but i lost like 900GB worth of content... I don't recommend Hitachi drives...

Oops, I swear I read through it without finding the brand. Eyes were blur blur, I see it now =p

Unless things have changed in the last few years, Makro isn't open to the general piublic.

Absolutely correct but still a deal for Makro card holders.

Heat added,nice deal,Verbatim are a quality outfit.

You'll get the seagate ones on ebay every so often for £54.99 del'd on the daily deals but this is a nice find.

If you have stuff you need, never rely on a hard drive, let alone an external one, always back up on quality media like Verbatim.
Hard drives will last longer if they are always on and not switched off daily (this is a big factor in failures).

Surely posts like this should not be allowed, after all I thought makro was cash & carry?

Of course posts like this should be allowed!!! A bargain is a bargain wherever it is found. Many many people have cards. Its very easy to get one. When I posted the details, Makro dutifully came up in the list of approved dealers, when entering the deal. Which means many deals from Makro have posted before.

Everybody has their opinion, but general concensus is that for 1 terrabyte+ drives, buy a Samsung OR a Western Digital OR Maxtor. Seagate drives have always been good, but they have cocked up with their 1tb+ drives reliability (firmware problems). I'm also told to steer clear of Hitachi.
