Hit & Run Damage

POSTED BY: haider786 4 weeks, 1 day ago

My new A3 just got hit outside my house, it was a hit a run and it seems that the car was white. I live in a private compound so theres only one way to come in and out, so I know that the car was white from the scratches.
There is a 3inches x 2 inch crack on my rear bumper on the side.

This has been the first time this has happened to me, what should I do?
Insurance?... and If i were to inform insurance whats the procedure? do I need to tell police if so how.. etc

Looking forward to you help as my cars only few weeks old and it's just argghhh to be in such a crap position

Cheers Haider.

if it is minimal damage it is not worth going through your insurance it would be more hassle than its worth tbh

Upto you mate.

Insurance or get it fixed from your own pocket.

Go down the insurance route & you'll lose your no claims (if not protected). If it is, you'll still have to declare it as a claim everytime you get car insurance for next 5 years.

Contact police though & report it (they wont do diddly squat though).

Any CCTV about ? Id do my best to track down the ****er though !!!!

Call police and get incident number then call your insurance and tell them what happened and give them police incident number. They then hopefully payout for repair.

The damage will cost me £140 for a epoxy resin to fill the crack, but I know one more hit, the crack will come out again. I would prefer a new original bumper, it's a new car and it will be on the back of mind.

Just do a bit of research first. There are plenty of people who can do a really good job, you won't even know.

its not the job, its the fact that if someone hits it again, the crack will crack. So I would need a new bumper ideally.
Arghh so much hassle, I'm gonna find that *******. Knock on his door, shoot him with a shotgun. argh.

Save your credit. Someone tipped Nitromors all over my Brand new 172 in 2002. £5k damage.
Police -'did you see who did it?
Me - 'no'
Police - 'We'll put it on file and give you a ref no for your insurance.'

Waste of space.

These bumpers are designed to be flexible. When hit the bounce in then pop back out, when that happens the crack will just split again, it happened on my polo gti. I tried to save a few quid getting it 'plastic welded' but someone hit it and it just cracked again.
