Hisense 1080p HD TV Media Player £59.99 @ Expansys

£59.99

46°

FOUND BY: newsgroupmonkey 4 weeks, 1 day ago

I know this was previously posted at £74.99 with a £15 voucher, but this seems pretty cheap considering it appears to play most things thrown at it.

A fairly unbiased review can be found at

LOOKS LIKE CHEAP CHINESE S _ _ _ (snow) lol

I'd rather buy WD TV - one without internet connection. Who is going to use it anyway?

I'm not entirely sure how this one works, but if you, like me, like to use online streaming and accessing a NAS, then a network connection is absolutely key.

Also, how do you get your media from PC to Media player? Keep plugging and unplugging a USB stick or HDD?

If you want to talk about Cheap Chinese rubbish, I'll talk to you about my Extreamer.....

Edit: The more I look at it, surely you should be comparing this with the WD-TV Live which is about £50 more?

Sorry, didn't mean to offend YOU, but based on review from your link i didn't like it at all.

About plugging and unplugging a USB stick or HDD.
I keep on my 3.5" Maxtor external HDD all movies so i can watch it at any time. It is like my personal movie library. You are right i have to plug it to my PC from time to time but i don't see it like a problem. To be honest i am not really bothered.
I know streaming and other stuff is cool but why keep running your PC when you are watching movie?
Maybe you use it in different way like i do, so that might be a reason of our disagreement.

Extreamer is really cool but unfortunately i do not think that there will be any price drop in future.
It is really good device but bit expensive for those who don't use streaming and etc.
It really depends on how do you use it.
Take care.

I apologise too if this came across as a bit agressive.

I moved from DVD player with USB that played anything simply because I was getting the 'ump every time I wanted to move some media from one PC to another. I have a Buffalo Linkstation Live NAS which I've set up with Freelink firmware. This way, I have a central repository which I can access from work as well as anywhere in the home. A media player with network connectivity therefore makes this mandatory.

My Xtreamer is screwded at the moment (fan problem). I use it sparingly for Music and SD content but clearly not for HD. I await a new fan (which I expect to arrive some time in 2012)

Forgive my ignorance but what does this actually do? will it allow me to watch stuff I have stored on my PC on my TV without having to use USB stick /DVD. And if so, does it connect to the PC by wifi?

Yeah, many people have problem with fan. Some of them even use big 12cm custom fun to make it cooler and quieter. It require a bit skills with PCs and modding or at least good tutorial from YouTube.

Same here, I have a Windows Home Server with all my stuff on it. 3 blokes in a house, all have a PC each and there is a general use PC in the living room. Centralised storage is pretty much essential, so for a media centre so is streaming over LAN. We currently use an XBOX, this is cheaper though!

Not really, although it is HD unlike the Xbox.

My kids have xboxes in their rooms running XBMC. One broke down the other month so I bought one from CEX for £18 or something silly which came with a wireless controller and a game.

You don't need to hard mod the Xbox any more.

Sounds like a fully functional bachalor pad !! . I live with 3 women !! . The closest thing i have to a male housemate is the unic cat !! Can't even take a 5h1t break without 1 of them wanting to put on makeup in the bathroom

No as he said he means an Xbox running XBMC. Still very popular media players.
