Virgin Media 10mb Unlimited Broadband/TV/Phone + Virgin Phone Line rental for £25 + £65 Quidco

£14.00

-39°

FOUND BY: dealfinderwanter 3 weeks, 3 days ago

You can get full Virgin Media pack + free installation free V box and free wireless router for £14. But thats if you get the line rental which is £11. Thats still cheaper than BT.
The broadband is what caught my eyes. Unlimited broadband. So no Cap.
For an additional £5 you can get the V+ HD Box.
This is better than anything sky can offer at the moment.
You get a free wireless router
and you can transfer your current telephone number over too!
the only thing you need to check is if you are with BT. you may get a cancellation charge. I did its a % of the remaining 12 month contract you have left

'Unlimited' BB is still subject to a Fair Usage Policy.

Tv pack is M, which is only Freeview, but does include TV Catch-up and VOD.

The V+ HD box is an extra £5/month, but also £75 one-off payment up front.

That £14 was a bit misleading, I get 20Mb for £16 from them but it runs out next month, thats without a phoneline :(

freeview doesnt include virgin 1 and sky 3 does it?
and the fair usage is only during peak times. if you download more than 1gb of information between 4-7 then you download speed will be limited from 10mb to 1 during the remainder of the peak time. but then returns to normal. there is still no cap.
I still cant find any cheaper deal with sky even with vouchers.

If you are aware of a better deal please let me know as im looking now. And its not too late to cancel what I have just bought.
Thats line rental/broadband/phone/TV

As mentioned above, Sky 3 and Virgin 1 (and +1) are available on Freeview.

Can't comment on the ins/outs of the fair usage policy, I was simply posting that 'unlimited' doesn't necessarily mean what it says on the tin.

You are right, you can't get a better deal with Sky, as they dont do Freeview on its own, and their minimum viewing package costs £16.50/month alone - but that does include more channels than Freeview, incl Sky 1 and the UK TV suite of channels.

I have been looking at switching to Virgin this week as it happens, and found that to get what I wanted would probably cost me about £5/month more than I pay to Sky at present.

Current Sky package/month:

4 mixes = £20.50
Everyday BB (10mb/10GB) = £5
Sky Talk Line rental (incl Free Eve & W'end calls) = £11

Total = £36.50

'Equivalent' Virgin Media Package/month:

XL TV = £21.50
L BB (10mb/UL) = £5
L Phone (Incl Eve & W'end calls) = £3.45
Line Rental = £11.00

Total = £40.95

+ £75 one off payment if I wanted a recordable set-top box, though the V+ box is also and HD box.

Virgin do include free ESPN and catch up TV and VOD with their XL TV package, however I had similar stuff when I had BT Vision, and never used them TBH.

So ultimately, I will stay with Sky for now. The virgin prices on their site all look good until you realise you still need to add the £11 line rental.

Sorry to drift off topic anyway.

no thanks for the enlightenment. Ive used freeview to be honest.
The "M package +" which is on top of the standard M package can be added ontop of that £25 package and that includes 25 more chanels like all the sky 1,2,3 etc + some others. Just for info.
Thanks
John

One of the main things that annoyed me about Virgin line rental is that they don't take over your BT line so that ends up being cancelled. Then when you want to leave Virgin, there's the hassle of reactivating your BT line (which is still cheapest through Phone Co-op). Plus Virgin call prices are ridiculous. I need to phone OS a lot and Virgin don't have decent deals, plus their 087x/084x prices are much more expensive than most.

All in all I worked out that Virgin just wasn't worth it and I went with TalkTalk.

I agree Talk Talk is the cheapest deal around, but customer service is worse than virgin and I was left without broadband for 2 weeks before I cancelled.

Haven't Sky reduced the download limit from 40gb to 10gb on the £5 tarriff?

Actually, you are correct - it seems the download limit on the £5 everyday (was Mid) tarrif has gone down from 40GB to 10GB - I hadn't realised that - not sure if that affects existing customers, as I currently download as much as I always have (got to be >10GB per month) and never had any warnings about limits, so had assumed I was still on and under the 40GB limit.

have to agree with VM call charges - getting a bill for £10 of calls each month regularly now and we use the phone at most once a day!

5p connection for every call and sometimes 30p per min to ring a mobile and 10p national rate.

we try to just use our mobiles when calling anyone but sometimes forget!

Yeah, just been looking at their call charges - inclusive calls are to UK landlines only, and this is 01, 02, etc. Sky include 0870 numbers in their UK inclusive numbers.

We mainly use the phone evenings and weekends, hence why the Sky Talk freetime package is ideal for us. Our monthly calls charges are generally only a few pence over the line rental charge, for the occassional call to a mobile.

Incidentally, Sky Talks line rental is now also £11/month, but their inclusive 'Freetime' package is better value than Virgins 'M' phone package.
