Replace my sky netgear router with another one?

Evening Guys/girls...
Is it possible to replace my old Netgear router (that sky supplied me), with a new one?

Ideally replace it with a belkin with better features.

I am currently on sky broadband.
I heard its not possible, why not? How do I go about this?

http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-router/ go here the unoffical help forum you need to run abit of software on the router and it will give you the login details which sky WONT give you

also more here on hacking the router to get your login details and password out of router
