Membership discount on paypoint/payzone when you pay your bills with Co-operative membership

If you are already a member at a local coop store you might have noticed recently they have been printing out vouchers for 10% money off your next basket amounting to £20/£30/£40/£50 for people in their membership scheme.
It might seem like a ploy to make you spend more money in the shop to reach that £40/£50 mark, but its often overlooked on the ticket that it states the voucher works on anything apart from petrol. Therefore by this you can actually reduce your electricity/water/gas bills (at the most expensive side of the year) by just going to the coop with that (vacant and dusty) old membership card.

Sidenote for anyone not a member: In my local store people who have not wanted the higher value coupons have been leaving them around the till area, so you may even not need a card in such a case.

Warning: Lurking around other customers to get their unwanted vouchers may make them think of you as a cheap voucher hording whore. Congrats.

I dont get this, so you pay £50 for your electric then get a voucher for 10% off off your shopping bill, why?
you save more than 10% by going to a different shop

I think I get it. YOu buy your shopping from co-op. Say £50 worth of stamps and they give you a 10% money off voucher. Then you go and pay for all your bills at the pay point and save a stack of cash. Wonder if it includes electric meter keys and the like too.

When using your Co-operative Members card you may receive a printed off coupon for £2.00 off £20.00 or £3.00 off £30.00 etc.

I work at the co-op, i have had a look at the small print at the bottom of the coupon and it states 'This coupon cannot be used against purchases of cigarettes, tobacco, mobile phone top-ups postage stamps, savings stamps, lottery, paypoint and in store concessions'.

That does not mean to say that when it is scanned into the till it does not work though.

Happy Shopping and look out for the great chocolate tub deal this week.
