£679.00

FOUND BY: sputty 3 weeks, 5 days ago

Just appeared in the Apple refurb section this morning. I'd wager that it's left over stock since now the smallest iMac screen size they sell is 24". Why do I think it's hot? Because it's the cheapest I can find this item!

1-year warranty
20-inch glossy widescreen display
2GB memory
320GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB memory
802.11A/B/G/N Wifi
Gigabit networking
Built-in iSight camera

Well I voted hot... but I expect this to get freezing cold soon.

Hot because: It's the cheapest way to get an Apple desktop.
But people will compare specs with a Dell or some other Windows machine, which would be about £200-£300 less.

I know what you mean! I tend to regard hot things as the cheapest deal for a specific item. For fun, I decided to work out how much a hackintosh would cost to build with the same spec and software as this...
Core 2 duo 2.66GHz cpu: £85
a/b/g/n Wifi: £25
20" screen £120
320gb hdd: £30
2gb ram: £20
slot-loading dvd writer: £40
software (Mac OS Snow leopard and ilife): ~£100 (this is scaled down from the mac box set because you can't get snow leopard in a legal full version any other way)
motherboard with firewire: £50
a decent looking case & psu: £60
keyboard & mouse: £15
bluetooth, webcam, firewire: £25
gfx: nvidia 9400: £40

Total = £610 + delivery. I think I'd just get the iMac, especially as I didn't see if any of these components were hackintosh friendly

Voted hot by me! Brilliant price, I was planning to buy one a fortnight ago from MacKing, but this beats their price and feel a bit more comfortable buying direct from Apple.

Brilliant brings price to £658.63 with Quidco, and using an AMEX cashback card to get a little extra back :-) Minds made up, off to purchase now!
