Nokia N900 available to pre-order free on various tariffs @ MobilePhones Direct

52°

FOUND BY: kyllerbuzcut 3 weeks, 5 days ago

STARTS: 25/10/2009

This is the first deal I've actually posted like this so go easy please:)
( although I have posted several deals by replying to other peoples threads, only to see them end up being posted by someone who then gets lots of heat and rep)
Anyway- to the deal:
Latest Nokia N900, the phone that is about to change the way people look at mobile computing. Available at mobilephonesdirect on a range of tariffs. Both on Vodafone and T-Mobile currently to pre-order, expected delivery is mid November. My favourite deal on the page is the Vodafone £20 tariff with internet, which works out at $24.47 per month, although you do have to pay $47.99 up front for that one. I think I will be going for this deal over the next week or so unless something better comes up in the meantime.

Forgot to say:- Tech specs, features etc are available at the website, and are also all over the net if you want to read a review or anything. I have also looked up the company and have seen many favourable reviews.

I can't decide between this and the HTC HD2... I think I'm going to go with whichever becomes available first, the release dates for both keep slipping.

I was thinking it must be to do with the VAT thing. I haven't done the sums, but I think when it is worked out it would be £25 when the VAT goes back up to normal later in the year, so by signing up now you save the difference every month

VAT - I think you'll always pay the prevailing vat rate at the time you're charged each month, so when it goes up, even if signing up now, you'll then pay the higher rate.

Nokia - Very good signal but boring software/OS.

No other phone can beat iphone or HTC android based phones..

HTC HD2 is best.. but what i am worried is about the battery life of both mobile phones as they dont have very impressive battery life ..i have an xperia X1 which has a 1500 battery but its useless..

so lets see what they do?

My Samsung F700 has decent battery, but has 'early adopter' problems (it came out roughly the same time as the first I-phone).
I keep looking for something better, but I keep finding shortcommings that keep me from changing.

For anyone who doesn't already know, you SHOULD be able to install & dual boot android on this. It's been done aleady on the n810, which also runs maemo. There are videos all over youtube etc. Don't know if that might sway some people or not.
Also, I have still not found another place offering this device on contract yet

I think they both have advantages. N900 isn't using WinMo, has a physical keyboard, FM transmitter, flash plugin.... HD2 has a capacitive screen, better processor and more apps around (even if they're not as easy to find as iTunes makes it for a certain other phone).

But for me, the best bit about both is the resolution of the screen (almost double that of the iPhone), meaning many web pages will display nicely without having to keep scrolling all the time.

It's more than double the resolution of the iPhone, 480x320 vs 800x480.

The apps available for it will basically be the same as Linux Qt apps. So plenty of them. And even more once the old ones have been converted from GTK to Qt.

I had the old N810 and I could do far more with it than I could with my N95.
