For keen photographers I'd recommend one of these as a cheap geo-tagger.

Get any fairly recent N-series Nokia (S60 3rd edition at least) , I use my old N95, get a free PAYG sim in it and then download the free Location Tagger app from Nokia http://betalabs.nokia.com/betas/view/location-tagger
The PAYG sim is needed for A-GPS, otherwise it can take 5 min or longer to get a lock.

Tell the app to sync up via bluetooth with the GPS and then when you're out shooting with your camera take at least one identical pic with your nokia every time you change location. When you get home compare the pics on your phone with those on your camera and you'll get the location data that way.
Using Flickr/iPhoto or whatever app/site you prefer you can then associate that location data with the pics from your shoot.

It's not exactly elegant but it works a treat and is remarkably accurate, when on honeymoon recently I left it running in my backpack all day with a lock and managed to geotag a trip all over Bali.

Does the N95 not already have GPS built in?

Yep, but it's pretty poor at maintaining a signal lock even using mast triangulation. I've found one of these to be much more effective.

Any kind soul know how you can use it to

a) add geotags to you photos, preferable by syncing time of photo with some windows XP based software
b) generate a map of where you have been by storing in reatime a route you take with some software with a switched on laptop
c) then uploading into a map software like google earth

tried google it but complex to work out what the best freeware options are
many thanks in advance

http://www.oziphototool.com/ can take gps logs and merge the gps data into jpeg exif data.
Most standalone bluetooth modules don't store the logs, however pc apps like memory map and ozi explorer will.

Gone back up in price now. I was amazed that there was so little interest in this for £17.99. Btw mine arrived today.

a) I've used a few programs and thought Geosetter was the best. Plenty of features and free.
b)Not sure how this device works, but I'd image it just outputs standard NMEA sentences via bluetooth which means you should be able to find some software to record them and save them as .nmea or .gpx etc
c)Geosetter can create KMZ files of your tracks/images.

£17.99 was an amazing price for this. I had already bought one previously for £40.

Lucky those who managed to get it for the reduced price.
