Just noticed a rulechange on profiteering

POSTED BY: Johnboy_1975 3 weeks, 3 days ago

(10) You must NOT list items for sale at higher than the recommended retail price. The marker of RRP will be determined by cross indexing with Amazon or other well known retailer. Profiteering is NOT permitted and this includes items previously found at a lower price in the 'Deals' or ANY forum here.

^^
A bit of clarity on this rule, does it mean you cannot sell above the lowest price an item has ever been?? ie Are all xbox elites from now on got to be sold for £120 or whatever the Amazon misprice was. And can FIFA not be sold above £25??

no you dont have to sell at the lowest price ever, but if something is on a site at £20 lower then people are gonna post links to it, also if say there has just been a misprice for an xbox at £100 and you list one soon after they will ask for proof of purchase to show you are not using deals to profiteer, does that make sense

It means you can't sell higher then priced here, but I think as Sassie has said they will ask for proof of purchase if they suspect something is a miss or you/I has bought a miss price.

from what i have seen anything that gets flagged up as maybe profiteering will be looked into by a mod and more info will be aksed for, i mean how many people buy sealed consoles then change their mind, yes im sure some will they say they do but come on we all know different, for smaller items im sure we have all done it, buy stuff, put away and forget about it. anyone seen to be continually selling brand new stuff over and over again will be pulled up

Whats wrong with the selling profiteering anyway? as if the seller has to sell at a much lower price than they bought it for, then it is the BUYER who is profiteering.

I dont believe that the FS/FT forum should be used for profiteering at all, however I agree with some of you with respect to how "profiteering" is defined.

All people are looking for is to sell their item at a fair and reasonable price. I sometimes get the impression that potential buyers expect sellers to sell at the lowest price that they have seen their item advertised for (whether it be a misprice or not), which to me is mild psychosis on the part of the potential buyer as they lost out on getting the item at the misprice.

I dont agree with this cross referencing nonsense with Amazon as they are a large online retailer and their purchasing power may unfairly put a lower "RRP" price on the item being sold and also unfairly puts the seller in a predicament if they dont have a "receipt" to prove the original purchase price. If this is the case then the rule should be changed to say you can sell your item at any price equal to, or lower than the original purchase price once you have supplied proof of purchase.

It's not very fair to take advantage of this site for personal benefit - say someone posts a great deal, I spot it quickly and order a 100 knowing I'll be able to easily sell the item at a higher price in the for sale forum here, on other forums and ebay. The item is out of stock and no-one else here can take advantage of it, I then make a tidy profit selling the item having deprived the users here of getting the good deal. That's clearly not very fair and goes against the aim of the site which is to find and offer great deals for everyone, while they can't stop profiteering on ebay they can at least stop it happening here.

But there is a limit of selling up to two maximum items for the fs/trade section. So that in itself stops profiteering, or lessons it a huge amount.

It limits it but certainly does not stop it - recently someone bagged an Orange Touch HD for 100 pounds, asked for advice about unlocking it then put it up for sale at 240 pounds. The thread was rightly closed for profiteerung, 140 pounds profit is nothing to shrug at.

That's what has always happened. I think.
