I am in the process of buying a laptop and wonder if this is too good to be true. I know little about them. I would like to know if it's worth buying for my son.

Well, I have looked it up at various sites and this does seem a great deal. I'm nearly there to buy although it is a bit more than I was going to pay for one. I was going for this:- Samsung R519 Laptop, Dual Core T4200 2.0GHz, 3GB RAM, 250GB HDD, 15.6 HD LCD, DVDRW, Webcam, Silver and Black, Windows 7 Home Premium. wireless N is the latest and fastest wireless technology, if you want to send data or stream movies/music it can send more data quicker to other wireless N enabled things.

This is a great spec laptop, perfect for your son Teltheboy, won't get outdated quickly, proper graphics card is a must have, everything runs quicker and smoother. Unlike other acers this doesn't have any silly gimmicky star trek style buttons or features that waste space and break, and also this has a number pad on the keyboard which is convenient for when they want to type in ur credit card details quickly without your permission!

it also has louder less tinny speakers on it instead of the usual hopeless laptop speakers.

I bought a solid spec similarly priced acer like this over 5 years ago and its still runs smoother than most £500 laptops of today, this one looks much improved and my friends have new acers and theyre great.

problems with them have been with upgrading, acer have silly hardware with outdated drivers, so its v difficult to upgrade to windows 7, as a result i'm still on xp. but this one shouldnt have that problem and comes with the latest OS anyway.

If your upper limit is around £400 have a look at this - not as well spec'd but good for the money.

the acer is far more up to date than both samsung and dell and far better spec, worth the extra in my opinion. the dell has integrated graphics, dedicated graphics card is really noticeably better even for browsing the internet, the flash animations etc will be smoother and more responsive. the acer really has the latest of all technologies, the processor, ram, graphics, wireless all pretty state of the art
