Except that's marketing rubbish. any HDMI cable at 1.5m will display 1080p.

How is this a Professional cable? Most 'profesional' cables used in broadcasting are custom made for the job they are doing at the point of instalation. I used to have a shower that had a lable on it 'the profesionals choice', the choice of the profesional showerer? It was a rubbish shower.

Not voting hot or cold.

I'm not sure if that's 100% accurate.

I know we're dealing with a digital signal here. However, there's going to be a difference in data rate between 1080p and 720p, etc. Using ethernet cable as an example, not all cables can handle Gigabit connections which is why we have different categories of cables. My understanding is that the same concept applies to HDMI cables.

The wiki entry is quite helpful.

100% accurate.

Read the wiki, nowhere does it say you need a CAT 2 cable for 1080p, why? because its not true.

If you want 2160p, then granted a CAT 2 cable is needed, but only up to lengths of 7.5m, you won't find a CAT 2 cable over 7.5m.

Also, theres no such thing as a CAT 1.3 cable, that's referring to the HDMI port nothing to do with the actual cable.

I bought gold plated cables from ebay for much less than this (from the UK too) - I paid £3.90 for a 5m cable....

I've done a bit more research and looks like you're right. Even the HDMI website says that most (probably all) cables will work at 1080p if the length is less than 5 metres.

Not sure what the CAT 1.3 part is about. Can't see that in the OP at all... It says "HDMI v1.3b Cat 2". It's probably more suited to a 30" PC monitor.

Sorry, no such thing as a v1.3b HDMI cable is what I mean. Its either CAT 1 or CAT 2. v1.1, v1.2 or v1.3 doesn't come into it when talking about cables. As soon as you see v1.3 mentioned in a advert for HDMI cables you can assume its all marketing guff.

The only reason any HDMI cable will not work with 1080p is either that the length is too long or the cable is defective. It has nothing to do with which version it is.

I got a cheap one from ebay and one of the ends keeps coming off. Worth spending a little bit more if the build quality is going to be better especially if you are plugging this into a £1000 + tv.

Or... you could get 3 x HDMI cables for less than 1 of these...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/MicroVillage...7186247&sr=8-1

I bought 3 of these a couple of weeks ago for my new Home cinema upscaling dvd player and they work just fine.

Cold, much cheaper for other HDMI leads that are longer, cheaper and do the same job.
