I too remember watching it as a wide eyed youngster with my dad - the theme music was especially atmospheric. We used to visit my grandparents every weekend and while this series was running, I used to love questioning my grandad's (both of whom served in Africa during WWII) about the war and listening to their accounts / opinions of what happened. I've always since bought & worn a poppy at this time of year purely because of the effect this series had on me as a kid and will forever view all the men and women who took part as true heroes from a time when wars were genuinely fought to preserve freedom.
