When you take into account the price of the OS - this comes in at about £10 more than building it yourself, and that's without the extra McAfee stuff you get with this (and that's with a crappy case, no keyboard and mouse - if you spent more on a decent case it'd probably cost more than this).

Hot from me.

Decent deal. Those in two minds should consider that 64bit operates at more than twice the speed of 32bit

Dells are usually not overclockable.

Don't forget Quidco for an additional 5%

If you go for just 4 GB RAM it comes to £616.55 minus 5% Quidco
That's £589.75 inc VAT and delivery.

I see they have dropped the premium warranty, XPS owners used to get next day onsite and dedicated 24/7 helpline as standard (even if bought via outlet), now you have to sent your unit away for repair and pay extra for premium warranty

Can vouch for this system as I recently bought one with i7-870, 4GB @ 1333mhz and put in a 8800GT. With a Vista Index of 5.9 across the board (highest rating) it's very fast dealing with Vista requests. I can't imagine 8GB would make much, if any difference to the average user.

I like the new design and the USB tray, furthermore the system is quiet. The 350w power supply will limit power hungry GPU upgrades - I'm considering a swap out for a 600watt and squeezing a Radeon 5870 in the future!

Monitoring the processor I see when idle it downclocks to 1196mhz then depending on the request seemlesly speeds up according to demand - will speed step up to 3.60mhz in single threaded requests.

Geeza

maybe so, but i dont like the bespoke dell stuff - when it comes upgrading then you will wish you never bought a dell.....just bought a pc from novatech...it was a ex demo one that had been out for about 1 month, not especially cheap (paid £830 but got extra years service pack and usb stick and windows 7 retail) but upgradeable and some of it is much better spec than this dell and a much nicer case, came with windows 7 retail version - no pre-installed garbage
