Help/advice changing my phoneline from Virgin to BT please!

POSTED BY: TGB 2 weeks, 6 days ago

Afternoon all,

I was wondering whether you could give me a little advice. I'm looking to save some money on my phoneline/internet connection and have had enough of Virgin, so am looking to switch my phoneline to BT and take out a nice cashback offer with o2.

Before I moved into this property it had an active BT connection and I've got letters from BT saying that I can 'come back' to them without paying the ridiculous (122pound) connection fee. I've called BT to confirm this a while ago who said it'd be no problem, but I've just called again and the adviser told me that I'd have to make 10 chargeable calls per month in order to stay connected with this 'offer'? This is the first I've heard about it, they also said that signing up to BT without paying the connection fee will mean I need to enter an 18 month contract that will reset if I move home.

I'm looking to just have the damn phoneline so I can have o2 for a few measly pennies a month after cashback, absolutely no calls will be made from it, therefore I want the most basic option which looks like 11.25month line rental (free weekend calls).

I'd ideally like to sign up online as I can get 16pound cashback via Uswitch aswell.

Does anyone know about the chargeable calls thing and anything else I may have overlooked?

Cheers! Rep awaits those that can help!

We got free BT connection but have had to agree to making the chargeable calls per month, the key is to make them at weekends when the calls are free anyway.

I have Virgin Media and have worked out that overall they are cheaper and most reliable. BT could not match the deal I was even though we had a BT line already.

Before canceling I advise you to phone virgin media and try and get a better deal! Chances are they will try something.

Ah right, so it includes free minutes too? That's good to know! Gives me an excuse to call the family more I guess, I can just about deal with that.

Did you also have to take out an 18 month contract?

Have done mate, always on Virgin's case trying to get it down as low as possible but I've had so much trouble with them even if they could match the deal I'd get with o2 (it works out at almost nothing a month, I'm an o2 mobile customer and they give loads of cashback) I'd probably tell them to sod off anyway.

I really only need the/a line for the web, the TV's taken care of so BT+o2 works out much nicer for me!

As long as you 12/18 month deal is up.Ask for mac code
do virgin automatically put me back on bt no prob not
All you need to do is call BT
Tell them you want them to charge you for call they do it in 1/2 days no probs.
I had tiscail broadband but free call as well still pay bt line rental ok.
Stoped broadband when asked. But would no stop call charges unless i sent new deal details etc very unfair to have me by the nuts.
rang bt all done i 10 mins
Bt have all the power to get you back if you want them to.

Same deal, 18 months but we were told if we moved it would simply carry on rather than restart, unless of course we needed new install again.

Just ring BT up, and quote the code in the deals section. You'll not need a MAC code to move from cable to ADSL. If you want to keep your number be sure to tell them when you place the order.
