The Question Is: Should We Really All Boycott Modern Warfare 2?

POSTED BY: Internet_Tycoon 3 weeks, 2 days ago

There has been a lot of discussion whether or not UK gamers should Boycott the release price of the highly anticipated MW2.

Activision have stated publicly they wish to "extort" more money out of gamers. Therefore meaning charge more, or in other words rip off all of us.

Now being a major fan of the original COD4, I would happily pay £40 for this game. And happily pay upto £50 for MW2. Although the speculation is that if we all end up paying up to £50 for MW2 other game releases would follow suit.

So what do you think? Do you think we should all wait and force them to drop price?

thing is, thats never going to happen.. people will buy it whatever and you will never create a boycott bigger enough for them to care about it...

best bet is to hope for some good opening weekened deals as the chances are they will be the lowest prices availble on this game for a long time

No way I would boycott the game over a few quid. I know the argument is that this will set a precedent for other publishers to follow. Plus, no body is paying £50+ for it anyuway are they? You can get it online for just over £40, still below the rrp of most games. If it lasts as long as COD4 then it is still value for money.

The way they churn these games out, makes me wonder why they aren't severely cheaper than their competition.

I think not :-)

Don't really think anyone will be paying > £45 which is not so different from any other top rated new game hitting the shelves

Whats to say next time they will charge £50 or £60? It all really depends on the success of this release.

I have played MW at least 4 or 5 times a week since it came out.
The game just never gets boring.
Got cod 5, but hated it...full of bugs and tanks...kids game.
Im pretty sure i will still be playing MW2 this time next year.

if the game didn't have a very successful forerunner they wouldn't be upping the price but however it may backfire if it turns out to be a *&^% game then they will regret it

As we all know COD4 was hugely popular.. Now that has caused MW2 to be at least £5 more expensive.
Could we be seeing this trend with the next release or even releases of other games?

Its a moot point really lets look at it this way.

I remember Super Mario World for the SNES was about £30- £40 back in the 90s which was some serious wedge at the time (comparatively) I would say there is a lot more 'engineering' and value for money in todays games with advances in programming etc.

So its all pretty much relative.

You go ahead and boycott, I will be sitting grinning with a crate of beer and my 47" Screen firing on all cylinders sparing little thought for those who haven't ordered it

Very true...eeeeek if it is pants could be the biggest flop in the history of video games.

I think they are taking things too far - look at the current price for COD4 which is 2 years old. Its a joke.............what they don't realise is their pricing will lose them sales.

If COD5 had been available on release day for around £30 I would have bought a copy but because it wasn't I didn't buy one (despite being a fan of the franchise and I still have bought one). Same will apply to COD6..........although I might stretch to £35.....
