with that sort of budget you will get a nice 42". i would say plasma, as with lcd, you cant view the screen if you at a funny angle.

This isnt a problem with a LCD this big, tends to be around the 20" mark this happens or with really cheap and nasty LCDS.

You can actually - it just depends on the tv. Some have a narrower viewing angles than others

LCD or Plasma - horses for courses. Plasma have better "blacks" and are better with motion but they are heavy, power hungry, chuck out a lot of heat and reflect easily. LCD the motion can be blurred with the cheaper ones and the blacks are poor.

Basically go to a shop look at both and get which one you prefer.....

Also - now you are getting a flat panel you might want to think about mounting it on a wall, so bear that in mind when looking at them. You will want one that is the "right" size and look for where you are going to mount it.

when ever i have looked in a shop (say tescos)... some look great and others look a bit crap to be honest, i have always thought that they hadn't tuned them in right. I only want it for watching tv on using a normal sky box. I dont have games to play nor do i have a blu ray. But i do want a good quality picture.

Thanks everyone for answering.

PLASMA do get hot and can use up 500w when On!! a LCD will take 180w power

Now the Plasma gives good Standard TV display but the LCD's not great over 32" say.

HIGH DEF now both can do 1080p if u puchase the ones with FULL HD.

My sony 40" is not bad on the Standard telly stuff but im used to having a lcd tv

Issue was for me the heat and power consumption of a PLASMA! is it doesnt bother you go with a PANAsonic 37" + bigger the better !!
