IS it easy to change a sky box for a sky+ box

POSTED BY: chrisharry12345 3 weeks, 18 hours ago

Just ordered sky with multiroom.. really wanted a sky+box in the second room but thought another £100 was crazy so went with the normal box..

if i picked up a 2nd hand sky+ box on ebay, how easy would it be to wire it up?

The sky guy who done my multi room gave me a sky plus box instead of the normal one - as my OH bunged him a few pounds.

Worth trying!

edit...............just text OH to find out how much he 'tipped' the guy and it was £20

for sky + u need 2 feeds from lnb to the box, whereas the standard box only needs 1, i bought a quad lnb, which allows me 1 sky+ and 2 standard boxes, its quite easy really

The sky+ bits of the new box wont work unless you have a multiroom subscription on it, it's not just a case of wiring it up yourself and plugging it in.

Just get the sky bloke to run some extra cable it will cost you though as these sky engineers have to pay for the cable themselves.

Once you have the cables there, just call sky and have them update your 2nd viewing card to be assigned to a Sky + box. This is free

So you need

1) Multiroom subscription
2) 4 cables from dish, 2 to each receiver
3) 2 sky+ boxes
4) both viewing cards registered for sky+

Having the second cable routed cost me £10 (by sky's chosen installer), said it was so the Sky+ box could be moved to each room :-)

Ask him to run the cable and you do the rest he will charge you about £30.

ED= The charge depends on the length of the cable.

Ahh quality.. my dad said when they were building the house, the electrician has wired up cables into the wall ready for sky.. just went to check and there is already a double socket in the wall

So what do you recommend, should i just let him install the standard box and change it to a plus box when hes gone? or just ask him to plug in the skyplusbox so i dont need to resort the veiwing card?

Just had a look out side and there is a cable on the outside of the house that comes out of the wall at two points, but looks like its one cable that needs to be split.. does that sound right?

you cant split the cable for sky+, it NEEDS 2 seperate cables to the lnb (dish) - this enables the watch 1 record another ;)

the cable is installed into TWO sockets in the wall inside by the tv, they both run through the wall to the outside of the house where the cable joins together. surely if that cable is cut on the outside it is two seperate cables?

dude, on the arm of the dish, how many cables go into it (the lnb) ?
Each standard box u run will need 1 cable from dish to box
Each sky+ box needs 2 cables from dish to box(es)
