"A choice of the latest quad-core or dual-core processors". What does that mean, what do you actually get?

All that spec and still only x4 USB ports - you can never have too many!

I'm tempted but cautious because of Acer's poor backup reputation (and eBuyer's?). Any views out there?

usb ports can easily be solved with a usb hub powered or non powered. Havent much complaints about ebuyer on this forum lately, no retailer is perfect, the last complaints i heard about them was of customer service. As for Acer yes there are alot of anti acer people on here but for me im a happy acer customer, as there warranties are really cheap and my laptop is still working fine after 10-11 monnhs use.

Theres actually a total of 10 usb ports so there is definitely no shortage of usb ports. Unfortunately there not any reviews as this is a new item product to win 7.

It seems they are still deleting negative reviews from their site though, as they have done with mine and many others in the past - this post was yesterday:

Thanks. Good spec and I like Fujitsu (current PC Fujitsu Siemens has been fine for 4 years) but I'm looking for Win7 pre-installed and this is Vista.

if you play games the fujitsu would be a better buy if you dont play games get the acer.
Heres the thread on the fujitsu pc http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/46535...635-desktop-pc
The differences is that acer has more ram, slightly faster cpu, windows 7 and slightly cheaper. The onl;y advantage the fujistsu pc has is the ATi 4850 graphics card which can be bought separately for about £75.

Thanks again for all the advice but what about the issue of Acer's reputation? Is it valid for desktops too? My expertise, such as it is, is as a user not a fixer; I don't want to be fiddling with software or hardware every few months!

no i dont but its most likely to be 512MB as that one is cheaper. If it was 1GB id assume they would state it was 1GB as that would be more appealing to customers.

I'm not sure what this machine is spec'd for.

All that RAM seems great, but you're only going to notice it with gaming or something extremely graphics instensive - so why only have onboard sound and graphics?

It's a machine spec designed to wow people who don't know what they want their machine for. I'd avoid it.
