Apple Iphone Return Query?

I got a brand new iphone 3g 8gb for my birthday last week, I havn't opened it and its still sealed.
Reason being I have my heart set on 3gs white. I dont want to ask my friends were they got it from and for the receipt as it looks real bad.
Is there anyway apple will swap me this over and me paying the extra cost as I have no receipt?

I'm sure they will be alright I know my friends, i'l deal with them later. I rather pay abit more and get double GB and the get the S version for only £100 more.

Contact Apple & explain to them that u want to upgrade. If the phone is still sealed & hasn't been registered then they may allow u to do this......

I cant see apple letting you return it, you'd have to go back to where it was purchased, and surely your friends will give you the receipt for warranty purposes.
