There isn't really much point to gold/platinum plating HDMI cables, the only difference is that gold plating is less prone to oxidising than copper. In terms of picture quality, it will be identical.
I know you're not aiming that at me particularly IZ but I thought I'd pick up on it. I didn't say 'Gold Plated' cables make a difference. I simply stated it has gold plating to show the two products are the same (apart from the length of course).
For those looking to buy HDMI cables don't be fooled by the likes of Comet, Currys, etc trying to sell you a HDMI lead for upwards of £40. The signal that a HDMI cable is designed to carry is 'Digital'. It either gets there or it doesn't. There is no in-between. There are some reasons for using Gold Plating obviously but for the vast majority of the population, in terms of picture quality you really won't see the difference whether it's a £1.79 cable or a £149.99 cable.

I cannot give an appraisal of the cable Faythur has pointed to as I have not seen/used one of those but I can tell you the £2.99 cable from Home Bargains (I know you don't have them down South, I'm just making a comparison with more expensive cables), is good quality and delivers a brilliant picture every time.
