Do you check sell-by dates at the supermarket?

I went to do the weekly shop yesterday at Asda but everything had a 2 day sell by date on so I left the trolley and walked out. How do they expect me to shop for a whole week when stuff is only going to be good for a couple of days?!

im finding the same with tesco's at the mo, but the trick is to check the back of shelf as they do a rotation and move the stuff with less date on to the front

You lift up the trays and get stuff from the bottom/back. Also food stuffs from butchers market stalls are fresher.

I always check the back but I think they have got wise to this and stopped putting newer stuff out till the old stuff gets sold.

I always get things from the back, but some things only have a couple of days shelf life anyway.

It's a real pain with online shopping though - have had items delivered with "same day" date up (which irks me even more as they would have ben discounted in store). Ok, so you get to refuse and return them - but it then leaves you minus the items and with no substitute (kinda defeats the object!!)

this is what im always moaning about lol

we went shopping on monday and most fresh stuff was going out of date that day or the next
how the hell can you do a weeks shop and on a budget really makes me angry

I find the best place for reduced stuff with short dates ( which is fine for me ) is the local Co-op, they'll put anything out at a knock down price. I look most days and tend to arrange my meals around that

Starnge, I had a delivery from Asda on Monday and I foind the same as the OP. Evwerything had much shorter shelf life than normal. Maybe clearing stock ready for getting all the Xmas stuff in? The good thing was there were no substitutes on the delivery which I was pleased about.

im glad im not the only one moaning about this my oh says shopping takes too long now because you have to check the dates, a couple of months ago i got some cans of tango out of somerfields it was only when i got home and checked date that i realised they were two months out of date but shop werent bothered when i rang them because they were only sell by date and as these couldnt go of it was fine of course i took them back
